Rear and Surround wires

I have one rear surround and two surrounds. Should my wire on these smaller speakers be as thick a gauge as the fronts and center speakers? Do the wires need to be the same gauge all around?

Longer the run thicker the gauge.

Whether or not it's necessary will depend on what you are running to the mains and how long the distance to the surrounds is ...
For example if you are running 10 or 12 awg to the mains you probably don't need 'em that heavy going to the sides/rears ...
