Help with Polk db Series in a '99 Elantra

According to Crutchfield the Polk db 525's won't fit into the front doors of a '99 Hyundai Elantra GL sedan. But according to Circuit City they will. I spoke with someone from Crutchfield that said they won't fit because the doors aren't deep enough. But if Circuit City says they will fit is there some modification that they would be expecting me to do to put them in? And if so, what kind of mod would it take. Would it be costly? Would it damage the car? Any help you can provide would be great.

I normally hang around the home audio forum here, but I just bought this car this week and already want to try out some Polk speakers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

crutchfield is worthless...half the time theyre wrong...id go with CC
any modifications wouldnt cost more than $10 or so
    and thats being VERY conservative...
and it would do no damage to your car
and if you buy your speakers from CC they install them free

Add to that the fact that the CC installers have probably already done a dozen or so installs on your model car and know which will and wont fit. They told me my Momo 6x9s would fit with some elbow grease even though Crutchfield said no way. Well, it took a lot of bending, cutting and cussin' but they fit just fine.

Trust the guy that is out there working on cars all day and not somebody looking thru a data base to get his answers! :D

Thanks for replying so quickly guys. I guess my next question would be about the cutting. Does that considerably hurt the value of your car if you end up trading it in or selling in the long run? If it takes some cutting I think I'd be willing to let the boys at CC do their work, but I'm just curious.

It depends. If all youre doing is a little trimming around the edges to get the thing to fit in there then that wont be a problem later. If however youre hacking half the door and doing a bunch of fiberglassing then yeah thatll be a problem.

Hell like Cody said, CC will install them for free if you buy them from CC so you should go that way if youre not sure.

Do they always install for free? The website only lists some components as having free installation. Maybe that's just an internet thing. But if it really is free I may just have to drive to the closest store as soon as I get the car.

you can hack the crap out of your back deck of that car and it wont hurt the value of it as long as youre able to put the speakers back
how many people do you know take off the panels when buying a used car?
i thought all speakers were installed for free?
i mean not a 6x9 into a 5.25" hole but as long as they fit...then i think its free
call and ask or go to the store:)
