My set up - your thoughts?

Hello everyone...your thoughts on my set up?

Room is rectangular, 18' wide by 24' long.

2 RTi 6's for the front right and left (corner mounted) and a CSi5 (center). They're all up high in shadow boxes angled down and about 17' to the listening position -- to keep the wife happy.
2 RTi 6's mounted right and left (corner mounted and angled down) about 7' behind the listening position as surrounds.
2 PSW505's one in front and one in rear (roughly centered) connected to the LFE output via a Y connector.
Currently using a new Denon 1804 (will upgrade to a more powerful amp in the future). DVD player is optical out to the receiver.
All speakers set to LARGE and Sub set to ON. Receiver crossover set to 80. I've been switching back and forth between LFE and LFE+MAIN. Sub out is set to -3.
I'll be adding a Projector and large screen for video.

I've moved these speakers around quite a bit. The above setup seems to give me the best sound. I did have both subs up front and placed left and right (on the floor, of course)...but since the signal is mono anyway, I switched to front and rear to reduce clutter...and it seems to sound just as good, if not better.

Dolby 5.1 is awesome! As I said...I'll be going to a higher powered receiver, but for now, the Denon 1804 is doing fine. I ended up with 2 PSW505s by accident...but as it turns out, I really prefer it that way.

The only other configuration change that I have not tried is to run the left speaker wire through one sub and the right through another sub (moving both subs back up front) so I can utilize the sub's crossover (set SUB to No on the receiver). -- to kind of create a stereo sub image and maybe more precisely set the crossover.

Sounds good. I think the only thing I'd add would be some FXi's for side surround and when you get a new receiver make it 7.1 capable.

Assuming the surrounds are mounted at about 2-3' above ear level and that they are some reasonable distance behind the listening area I would move them in some from the corner and I would NOT angle them down. The idea is to create and overhead soundfield not point sources aimed at the listening area.

nice set up.... two subs.. that's very nice too.

i would suggest you set your speakers to small. and your subs to "on". that will direct more bass to your subs... I don't know how much bass the 6's can handle.

like Polkwannabie said.. you don't need to angle your rears down at all.

Do you have a sound level meter? that will help alot with the speaker levels. it's so important that you use one to set up all of the speakers in your system. I was way off trying to do it by ear.

Just a second to Dangerboy, I'd set my speaks to small. A lot of people who have towers, still set their speaks to small. (Myself included) With two subs you shouldn't need the large setting, and it will probably tighten the midrange.

And if you are gonna set the mains to small then it's pointless to have either 12's or 2000p's ... ergo my suggestion of keeping the 8's since you already have a pair of decent subs.

Agree with everybody who said set the speakers to small, as well as not to angle down the surrounds. The 6's have bass, but they should be considered "small".

ok...set all speakers to small...sub to ON...and now I'm giving this configuration a listening test.

...so what's the ideal crossover point? I'm switching between 80 and 100.

the only concern that i'd have with no toe and no angle down with your particular placement is strong early first reflections off of the side walls and ceiling.

if it is a problem it might be easiest to identify with music dvd's,.. if an instrument's image position changes as different notes are hit, if moving images don't travel smoothly across the stage or if you feel the sound is not as clear or sharp as you expect or have heard on other systems.

if you think it's a problem you can treat the walls and ceiling where the first reflections hit, experiment with toe/angle and placements further away from side walls and ceiling.
