Newly added to my watercooled computer is the newly released Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT clocked @ 431 core (overclocked BEYOND Geforce 6800 Ultra Golden Samples)!!
Now what surprised me is the fact that after I published my 3dmark2003 score (a benchmark for a computer's gaming performance), I have in my possession one fast a$$ computer.
With a score of 12,176... I have the 177th fastest gaming computer according to published futuremark results!! YAY!!
Sorry... this doesnt pertain to audio!
Goodbye ATi Radeon 9800pro!! Hello Geforce 6800 GT!

how much did it cost you?
-
Wanna sell your Radeon?
-
you must be one *hardcore* gamer...
-
Radeon 9800pro i gave to my brother... he gave me his once top of the line geforce 4600 to sell. The Radeon was a monster as well and I didnt feel like it was worth selling to another person if he didnt know how to fully utilize the card.
I am selling the 4600 on ebay though!
The 6800Gt cost me 369 from Fry's Electronics here in Illinois. I got it the day it came out (last week wednesday) and they still had 20 cards in stock. Now, they are all out of stock.... as are almost everybody (non online) is.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -

I'm into gaming as well and build my own computers. I've been slacking lately.
-
what u got in your system?
ive built over twenty computer systems but everytime i build a new one, i learn something new. whenever i think that i built the perfect system... i realize that i could have done something different to make it better.
oh well.... my next system will be perfect... or so i think... hehehehe .Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -

Logitech z680 5.1 Speaker System (Awesome to say the least)
NEC 1550v 15" LCD Monitor
...built it myself
...enough to play the usual Counter Strike and Americas Army. -
try unreal tournament 2k4, the graphics will make you **** your pants....not to mention its an awesome game that will chew up halo and spit it out.
-
i play unreal 2004... and the graphics are pretty good - especially when everything is set to hihg. however, i think that halo is a better game overall.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R

I play that all the time. Great game. Try Far Cry for some sick graphics. I can't stand Halo for the PC, but that's because I don't like the way the controls feel. I love it on X-Box -
what part do you like more joey? the fact that there are vehicles in deathmatch?
i can't even run ut2k4 with my stock card lol, when i play online i only get 4 fps...even with unreal 2k3 i only get about 20-30 fps, with everything set on the lowest.
i played it on my dads $7000 comp that he brought home from work and holy **** it was awesome. everything set to high with a 1600x1200 resolution on a 19" LCD monitor and the game ran perfectly smooth in every aspect. nuthin like dual 2.5 ghz processors and a couple gigs of ram to game with -
my present computer can run ut2004 without a sweat at 1600x1200 with 4 Antialiasing and 8 Anisotropy Filtering with everything set on high.
ut2004 is nice especially the vehicles!! nothing like going in with the leviathan and wreaking havoc. But i like halo better - i feel that it has more micro-play in it. however, i only like halo for xbox - afterall, it is a console game and will always be a console game. the controls are too clunky on pc, not to mention that the game is soooo poorly ported that i had a hard time running it on my previous videocard, the 9800pro! im glad my new 6800 can run it well now though.
Games look sweet on the 19" Samsung 193P LCD screen. It is samsung's 3rd generation lcd and looks like LCDs have gone a long way!

Sound is obviously taken care of by the 4 Polk LSi7s and the SVS 25-31PC+ sub anchors the low end. I still play games with my Sony 20$ headphones... i dont like bothering my dormmates most of the time. on weekends though... pretty much all hell breaks lose in my dorm!Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
Take a picture of it.
My computer is covered in Pig Skin. It looks like a football. I love it. -
Sounds pretty sweet JoeyV. You just dropped some serious coin on that 6800. Those mofos ain't cheap, and I am guessing you got the 9800pro when it was top dog too. Oh well, sounds like you know your stuff. I would be too chicken **** to OC a brand new $400-500 vid card. You are right about Halo being crappy on the 9800. I have a 9800pro OCd to a XT and Halo stills struggles, depsite my machine being far superior to an Xbox. I gotta disagree with you though, UT2K4 is the better game.
If you get the Logitech dual action gamepad ($20) you can play Halo with the exact same controls as with the Xbox. Its pretty sweet. Its exactly like a PS2 controller.
And yes, FarCry is one beautiful game.
We should set up a Polk gaming night for UT2K4 or something. What tag does everyone use online? I am Shizelbs, of course. -
shizelbs,
what computer you got running there? sounds pretty serious as well - with that 9800xt you got there. the reason why i like halo is the single player... multiplayer was never the reason for halo, it just came to be one heck of a multiplayer. i love ut2004 for multiplayer with all the vehicles and onslaught.
i dropped around 400$ for the card - but its worth it. i had to work a little overtime at the hospital the week it came out and it was as good as mine. a little hardwork pays off i say.
problem is, i start medical school in a month and i might not be able to use my pc for gaming as much.... .
oh well, i cant wait for one game though..
DOOM 3!!!!
9 days!!!! my card, my system, my speakers are all ready... bring it, carmack!Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
Joey, its nothing too wild. Its got an MSI 9800pro that pretty much automatically OCd to an XT with the MSI and ATI drivers. Everything on my computer says its an XT. Who am I to argue?
Lets see, what else; 2800+, Audigy 2, DDR 333 (1Gb in dual channel), nForce2, 260GB in HD, Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, Logitech Mx500 mouse (its awesome), and a couple optical drives. That pretty much rounds it up.
Good luck in medical school. Which school? What have you been doing at the hospital to make money? -
ahhh.. nice system! great mouse btw, i have the mx700 - and it works great, i can only imagine the extra precision you are getting with that mx500 - w00t!
i am going to Rush Medical School here in Chicago as an entering freshman (M1 as they call it). I work as a Patient tech at the hospital, good money most definitely plus I get hospital experience that I was able to put on my med school apps.
You looking forward to Doom 3??Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
Yeah, Doom 3 should be a good one. I am not looking forward to it making my brand new video card look like a dinosaur. Oh well, it'll still be good at lower settings. I am just glad to have a DX9 card now. I can't see it being much tougher on the system than FarCry and my comp does FarCry really well. Just no AA or AF.
Yeah, the mouse is pretty cool. Fits right into the hand and has a nice weight to it. Great ergonomics too. I would've gotten the 700, but wireless mice really annoy me. Too bulky with the batteries. I don't mind the wire. -
****,
do u know what anisotropy does? i have been a gamer for so long yet i dont even know if it does some real...
i know it has something to do with the textures and filtering - i assume it makes textures look sharper... ? i cant really tell though, maybe i need some side by side comparisons with Aniso and without Aniso. Thing is, this is probably the first time I can start playing with Aniso (and AA at the same time) since it usually results in massive performance hits.
All this talk about far cry... i played the demo, but i didnt like it... im sure its good though, maybe i should give it another shot.
im just starting splinter cell 2 right now and i hope to beat it soon (as in before doom3).Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
I am also looking forward to Doom 3. I love all the ID games and this one should be great. Too bad it will cost me a couple hundred to upgrade my ram and video card.Graham

Nice video card there Joey.
I have a 9800 pro too, wish I could justify upgrading, the new gen cards are amazing.
My system
p4 3.2 w/ HT
512 Corsair XMS pc3200 Dual channel
ATI (Built By) 9800 pro
Sony g500 21" flat screen (CRT) monitor
Logitech MX Duo (wireless keyboard, MX700 mouse)
Audigy platinum
Liteon cd-burner
Samsung dvd rom
I'm happy with it, especially considering I spent so little on everything combined you guys would think I was lying
Only upgrade planned... Memory- I really don't want a gig, I am actually against it as it seems so obscene to need that much... but I think I will probably get another 512k before too long... -
well... i just found out i got a pretty large scholarship to the medical school i am going to so it seems that i will have some extra cash around... alright!
some of that cash will go to a new system sometime when btx cases make a splash, btx motherboards, pci express, newer cpus and the next gen videocards come... so it wont be for another year or so.
the only thing i find weak in my system is the ram - it is rated only ddr400... i should have bougt something along the lines of ddr450. this way, with ddr450, i can push the front side bus to speeds beyond what they are right now. fsb REALLY helps when it comes to gaming and overall performance.
maybe i should have watercooled my northbridge chipset as well..
but overall.. i am very pleased with the system - always stable, very controlled system. the best thing about building your own computer is that you know your computer (at least the components and settings) inside out... you know what your weaknesses are, your strengths, your limits... its good stuff!
bad part of building your own: you become your own technical support.

Thats all of the frustration, but also part of the satisfaction.
Congrats on the scholarship. -
