Toshiba DVD players

Pardon my ignorance, but the couple of threads posted in the last few days that mention Toshiba DVD players is the first I've heard of their quality. Apparently they make great CD players? How is their picture quality? I was looking at the new 6915 5-disc player on sale for between $150-170. Looks to be a decent player (SACD, DVD-A, etc.). I've been meaning to grab a new CD player with SACD/DVD-A capabilities, without having to spend too much. Looks like Toshiba may be the way to go, considering the apparent sound quality. However, I'd rather use only one player for both movies and music if I can. Is the picture quality on these Toshibas pretty good? I have a HD TV, and I've had problems in the past with players in this price range. The quality of the player doesn't mach that of the TV. The Onkyo DVP-701 (I think that's right) for $300 produced a **** picture, even with good cables. My current player, a Denon 1815, produces great picture, due in large part to the Faroudjia technology I'm sure. Would the Toshiba stack up against a $350 Denon player for picture quailty, or should I stick with the Denon for movies and Toshiba for music? Any advice would be appreciated, although I'm sure I'll find out if I go out and buy the Toshiba. Still, I'd like a player that can manage both well if I can get one. Thanks.

Ok, so I'm reading up on the Toshiba 6915, and I see that it has a lot of problems. Thanks Danny. Your link provided yet more info on what a stinker this thing is. Why do so many of these companies produce units with so many bugs? :mad:

Another thing I'm coming across is that many universal players, from Denon to Toshiba, get mixed reviews. There are very few units that seem to have solid or consistent reviews in favor of the players. Are there really no universal players that are good for all formats? Say it ain't so. Does anyone know of a good universal player, or do I have to get separate components for CD, DVD, DVD-A and SACD? Thanks.

i think i read somewhere recently that Denon is lowering the price and adding features to some of their DVD players. they are coming out with a new line.. that will offer features that were only found in their higher end ones. i read steet date was late this year. just in time for Christmas i'm sure.

Maybe the new Onkyo and Yamaha uni players will be better. From what I have read on the internet, the Onkyo is a winner....Onkyo DV-CP802

The 802 looks great for the more affordable line, but the problem is, it looks just like the 700 series I had the picture problem with. Their scanning processor is inferior to Denon, and does not perform well with a HD monitor. Unless they've changed manufacturers for this model, I think it is probably not great for DVD viewing. That said, if the 802 can service the multiple audio formats well, perhaps I may look out for one at discount internet site like onecall or something. Anyone have any experience with this model or is it too new?

As you guys may know I am a huge Onkyo reciever/amp fan. I had a 5 disc Onkyo DVD player (retail around $350). I bought it from Crutchfield and the first unit i got , after firing it up a mechanical error came up. I had to have CF send me another because this one was no good. I recieved decent quality from it.
After three years and having trouble at times reading DVD's it also failed out of mechanical damage. I had to Trash it a month ago......... No more Onkyo Players for me. I have had my Denon for about two years and it is solid. But being a reference player it is stripped of all bells and whistles. And the tray spindle entry is rough at times. Have to eject and re-enter at times. Quality unit though..............

I put in an email request for info on the Onkyo site, asking them about the scanning technology they're using for the new 802. I told them about my problems with the 701, and asked if they've made improvements since then. I'll let you guys know what they say.
