2 subs and other thoughts

Hello everyone,

Well, after getting my first PSW505 fixed (loose wire), the vendor sent me a replacement PSW 505 which I elected to keep as a second sub. After reading all the articles on sub wiring and bass management...I have a couple of questions to help me create a more optimum HT system.

Room size = 23' length by 19' wide. listening distance to front speakers is 17'

I am using 4 RTi 6 (front and rear), CSi5 center, and two PSW505s located front left and right. Receiver is a Denon 1804 (wanted the 3805 and may still get it when I have more $$$ - but the 1804 works quite well). Subs are connected to LFE output using a y connector. All speakers are set to "small." I love the sound of the whole system. DVD sound is via optical out to the receiver. I'm very pleased with my choice of Polk speakers. I purchased the CSi5 because I wanted the absolute best center channel sound for movies. It seems to blend well with the RTi6s.

I'd like to reconnect the subs so I can more finely blend the bass with the rest of the system. I prefer keeping the subs in the front of the room. I primarily watch DVDs but also regularly listen to Sirius Satelite radio via my dish system.

From what I've read...it seems like the LFE out for subs is the least desirable method.

-- Would using the pre-outs (ie, tape monitor) (left to left sub and right to right sub), set sub to OFF, and speakers to large work better?

-- or, would you run the left and right channel speaker wiress through the subs (left to left, etc), sub set to OFF, and speakers to large.

Projection HD TV is next on the buy list.

thx! Mark

The best thing you can do is try it for yourself, and let us know your results. There are lots of opinions on this one.

If you want more bass, try stacking the subs in the front left or right corner. Place some small pieces of rubber or other material on the feet of the top one to keep it from vibrating off. I think you'll be pleased.

Setting the RTi6's to Large will make them sound muddier.

Two 505's should rock, stack and use LFE. Many people use speaker line because they have HTIB systems.
    Sirus on satilite:confused: Provider?
What TV are you using now?
May be expecting to much from an entry level reciever?
    Welcome aboard!!!!

You might want to try one sub on LFE and the other on speaker level. Set to Sub = yes(rcvr xo as low as possible) and Mains= large. You might have to trial and error the settings as far as XO's and phase but it might work well.
