Frickin' thief. I've seen ones in similar condition go for twice that and more. And yet even if you paid twice the price, it'd be worth it.

What speakers are you planning on using with it?

What is it now, like 5 members that own this amp? Not bad considering the wattage. It could be more. Heck, it's the weekend RuSsMaN might be taking pics of his new one right now.

I would think the 7's would go nice, but I can't be certain.

BTW - I claim dibs! I was the first that I know of.:D

Looks awesome. Congrats. I'm sure you'll be very impressed with the sound once you get it up and running. There's so much you can do to the amp.

Mine sounded great on the RT5, so try it out with your RTi38. Believe me, this is the only time you'll say the RTi sounds better than LSi. The LSi is too difficult for the amp to drive. The RTi will have A LOT more tube 'magic'.

In the future when you feel like uprading, you might want to consider going high eff and modify the amp to triode(very easy).

You're going to enjoy that amp. Did you get a demo at the seller's home?

No demo, but he's a real stand up sounding guy.. we met locally and he showed the amp, explained the whole thing.. removed the covers, showed me how to bios it.. show me the manual and went into details where it came from, how he ran it and the whole nine yards, very extensive sale not just heres your money im outta here.. he sells vintage gear regularly on e-bay with about 500 positive feedbacks... seems knowlegable as well... plus i saved what 30-50 on shipping and a possible damaged amp in transit. I'm excited to try this amp and see what it offers...

Thanks for all the good words..... will certainly give a review after i receive some tubes which will be soon as i have several offers i'm jumping on for tubes..

Just re-read the thread. You got that for $275! What a deal, I would have expected maybe $400 to $600. The 3960 should work very nicely because it has a very sweet midrange, authoritive bass and nice highs which will compliment the amp.

If you get very desperate, I can send them out express. The shipping will be quite a bit more though. It usually takes about a week from up here to the US using regular shipping.

There are a few things to keep in mind before firing up the amp. Make sure you lower your bias all the way (counter clockwise) before turning on the amp. Then slowly raise it over a period of 1 hour to 1.5V. Keep an eye on the bias for the first few days. I keep mine at 1.5V because it tends to drift slightly. Also, DON'T turn on the amp with no speakers connected.

The amp needs to heat up for about an hour before it sounds really good.

Hey, when's the last time it was fired up? You may want to bring it up on a variac. Some shops will do this for you.

NEVER EVER fire it up without speakers connected.

P.S. Give plenty of ventilation. This sucker will heat a small room in the dead of winter. It will also suffer if you don't ventilate it well.

Don't ever turn on and try to play loud before it has warmed up. Things will happen. Also check the fuses to make sure they are the correct value before powering up the first time. All of mine blow the fuse periodicly so I keep a few on hand. Now would be a good time to check radio shack for some and if they dont have any you can order from partsexpress.com

Sexy. One thing you can do is check the coupling capacitors on the driver board (6). My amp almost blew up a few sets of tubes because the old solder had soften up. While waiting for the tubes, you can replace them with new caps or re-solder the connections. It will kill output tubes easily if the solder joints are bad. If your EL34 tubes start to glow red or orange on the plates, the coupling caps is most likely the problem. Go easy when de-soldering so you don't screw up the tracing on the board.

I dont have a solder sucker, can i just reheat and touch up the solder? Ive been cleaning and getting ready the amp.. turned down the bios controls so when i get the new tubes... I got a rectifier tube today new locally... because i didnt think i would have yours in time. so I'll have a spare also anyways.. Madmax's tubes should be here tomorrow (well today wed.) and should be able to bios it up and fire it up....

Not sure about re-heating the solder joints. Take a look at them and gently wiggle the caps around. See if the joints move. Which tubes are you getting from Madmax? What brand rectifier tube did you buy?
