Anyone ever hear of an HDCD recording with no HDCD logo anywhere on the CD?
I just bought a NAD C541i with HDCD decoding and one of my Peter White CD's, Caravan of Dreams, triggered the HDCD indicator.

Not every HDCD-encoded CD is labeled or listed at HDCD.com. But I urge you to read the following thread at head-fi.org....

The entire DOORS boxset is HDCD yet there is no indication anywhere, not on the packageing or on the discs themselves, or anywhere. You do not know that these discs are HDCD untill you load them in your machine, or unless you spend time on the internet reading forums.

Go here for a catalog of HDCD recordings. The remastered The Dave Brubeck Quartet "Time Out" is HDCD encoded and NOT labelled as such.

A couple of years ago, I was trying to compare the SACD and CD versions of "Time Out". I was using a mediocre Sony SACD player and couldn't tell much difference between the remastered CD and the SACD versions and couldn't figure out why for several months. When I was comparing other CDs and SACDs I could tell a big difference. My CD player, which was HDCD capable, didn't have its HDCD indicator triggered by "Time Out". For a few months I just thought that the remastering was done very well. But, when I put the disc into my computer with Windows Media 9, the computer showed that it was HDCD encoded. I've since got a better SACD player and can say that the SACD version is quite a bit better than the HDCD version of "Time Out", but the CD sounds very good indeed.

Jim Brickman's "Picture This" isn't labelled HDCD on the CD cover, but the CD itself has the HDCD tag. I have the Rotel RCD-951 that is HDCD enabled, but I use it as a transport to an MSB DAC Link III w/ 24/132 upsampling. I like the sound of the upsampler better than HDCD and it's on every CD.

Not having a HDCD-compatible component CD player available, I tried the Windows Media Player on my Dell PC, and sure enough, the CD layer of my multi-channel hybrid SACD of "Time Out" is HDCD-encoded. However, it's not marked in any way on the packaging.

    Thanks for the responses!
I guess I always thought that HDCD releases were in addition to the 'regular' releases and cost more. But now I find that they're just 'mixed in' with all the others and often not labled. I've found a few in my collection that are HDCD encoded that I never knew were. All of the ones I've found in my collection are listed in the HDCD catalog someone provided the link for above. They include:
    - Stephen Stills - Stephen Stills
    - Stephen Stills - Manassis
    - Peter White - Caravan of Dreams
    - Jeff Golub - Out of the Blue

Jef Golub is the only one labeled. I get most of mine from the CD clubs and I noticed that they don't even specify which one's are HDCD encoded.
