Golden Tube SE-40 Tube Amp. 40 SINGLE ENDED watts / ch. Has a new set (6) of MATCHED 5881 Ruby Sovteks, and a pair of Phillips JAN 6SN7's.

Just serviced and biased. New Tiffany RCA input jacks, and new SOLID copper binding posts. Resistors, coupling caps, and power switch all checked out GREAT. (all possible issues with the SE-40 amps)

No problems here, this is about as good it gets. I won't even mention the cost of the matched tubes.

$500 shipped

I'll get better pics, if someone gets serious.

Cheers,
Russ

    Sounds nice too, REAL nice.

This will hit the bay late this next week. If anyone is serious, or even semi-serious, speak up in the next few days.

This amp will best anything up to 5 large or so, like I said, it doesn't get much better.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I like the bonus of the binding posts and the IEC inlet.

Damn Russ, I wish I had the money, I'd snag that up. I want to get into some tubes, but I'm weathering a layoff.

I wish you luck, that looks friggin nice!!

I'd love for you to have it.

Fact is, I've been getting more and more tube gear in, so when the time comes, I'm sure I'll have something nice, serviced, and ready to go for you.

No headaches here, I get the work done for you, and done right.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Carver amps are for old people.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

And when he says triple boxed there's a very good chance that the outer box will say "Fridgidaire".

I wish I could swing it.

    Pay him no mind.

This is coming from a guy that SOLD lots of great gear, Carver, Marsh, AMC, Rotel, and was blown away by a digital amp.

    Follow?

What does it mean to be Single Ended. Is that the same as Triode mode or Class A? I'm getting all these terms confused with each other.

Someone is going to be very happy. That's a great looking amp.

    Madmax,
Single ended is just means a single output tube per channel. Could be triode, pentode, etc. A pre could use a single tube for both channels if the signal tube is dual triode.

Tell me more about your amp. I have a post here on looking for a new/used amp and was steered towards you.

I read your post, and I don't think this is the amp for you. Sounds like with the setup you are running, you need a big pro amp, something that can handle a very low impedance load, with massive heat sinks and maybe a built in fan.

I would search for JBL (Urei), Crown, QSC, and Carver pro amps.

The SE-40 is headed to the bay tonight.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Do you repair amps of this type, Proton AA-1140?
Would I be better served $$-wise to buy two amps and run them in 4 ohm load?
The Proton had a steller write-up in Stereo Review back in the day. Especially the -6db headroom.

You would be better off setting up two rigs, and running the SDA's as they were designed to be run.

I'm suprised the Proton has lasted very long at all, under that much strain. I and my tech have a full plate, so fixing your amp here, probably isn't going to happen.

The first thing I would have checked is the DC offset for each channel. I'd be willing to bet they are WAY out of spec.

Good luck, with whatever you decide on - but I'd recommend picking 1 pair of speakers and setting a rig correctly - or setting up 2 independent rigs, and forget paralleling speakers altogether.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Exactly what I was thinking. Nice speakers like that deserve a better set-up situation, ie, independant amps.

I have a second GT-SE40, with a matched set of Ruby's and Sovtek. Minty, with manual, original double box etc, all checked out and biased - as the one listed here.

BLOWOUT club price - $500 shipped.
