Hi, whats up every1? i just joined these forums today. I just purchased a polk/momo 12". I was wondering if ne 1 could point me in a direction of a good amp. i want something that will push out enough power to make my sub be heard as well as compliment my music. the price range i have set is 0-180$. so if ne1 has any ideas or suggestions that would be appreciated.
thx,

I haven't kept on track with the amp trend lately, so these guys will help you better, but for simple enjoyable listening at that range, you're going to get about 200W amp... if adjusted well it'll serve you for quite a while.

Which Momo did you get? The MM124 or MM2124?
The MM124 can handle 500 rms and the MM2124 will take 400. It is becoming apparant that Polk speakers are rated pretty much right at the point where they will go **** up so I wouldnt get too close to that number because most amps are underrated. Its best to err on the side of caution.
Its gonna be hard to get a 400-500 watt amp for $180 but I can give you some ballpark suggestions.
Profile makes a good cheap amp and this one would be good if you have the MM2124. Its $110 and puts out 300 watts bridged.
There is also this 480 watt model if you have the MM124 for $140 bones.
This Coustic is my favorite pick for a cheap amp for the MM124. It easily puts out 400+x1 bridged and is going for $160 on clearance.
This JBL wouldnt be bad for the MKM2124. Its only $120 and puts out 360 watts bridged.
There are a lot more but these will all do. Go to sounddomain.com and do some snooping.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

go to sounddomain and get them to price match that amp
for whichever sub you bought....the mm124, mm12, or mm2124, that amp will do the job better than any amp in its price range

I agree with you on the MM124 but that amp is probably putting out 450 real world watts and the MM2124 is only rated at 400, and you, better than anyone LOL, know how well Momo subs react to overpowering.
Thats why I was recommending amps on the more conservative side of the wattage fence.
Great amp though, especially if you can get it for under $200!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Cody is right, that amp is far superior to any I showed you. You should check into it and if you get it just take care when adjusting your gains.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

LOL! Profile isnt even in Hifonics league!
Profile is an entry level amp for basic systems that require some power for a set of speakers.
Hifonics are for audiophiles that want clean, strong power for a high performing set of speakers.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

what do u guys think about a 400 watt crossfire amp?
-
i think you're fired from the forums...
so... who's missed me?
survey says... NOBODY.
... as far as your amp kid... if you have the "momo carbon" 2124 model... you can get away with something that's a mere 350 - 400 x 1 bridged at 4 ohms... and 180 should suffice for that... check out Hifonics, MTX @ mitekfactoryoutlet.com, Pioneer, JBL Power Valve, or RF Punch.
if its a Momo MM124 then you'd be advised to get something in the 650 - 750 x 1 at 4 ohms bridged range... and as such I don't think you can do that on your budget... crank it up to about $275 and look at the above brand / lines and you probably can.The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
putting over 550 watts to a mm124 means certain death...

I can vouch for that as the mm124 is the driver in the mm12 and when I attached 1 of those to my MTX thunder 1501d amp (500watts RMS @4ohm 1000rms at 2ohm) and had the gain at just over 1/3 (yes 1/3) my lil momo started smoking. Underratted my ****, MTX mis rates thiers by a full amp class hehehe.

Im now a new fan of Crossfire amps. I just bought one and love it. They have the VR401 which is 200x1 and 400x1. Crossfire amps are very underrated so you can expect an extra 50 watts Id say. As far as pricing, these things retail for $380 but my local dealer has em for $250.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
