I voted for the $401 - $800 range. That would be typical of my spending for any one piece of gear. If I can't fulfill my needs in that range, then I'm probly better of without it. Although, there are certain items that just can't be gotten for that. At least in HT, that is.

I think you should have added

    801-1600
    1601-3200
    3200+

especially judging by the results so far ... curves like this should be belled in the middle

Unless I won the lottery or worked my up in my company enough to make a big salary , I don't think I see myself ever spending more than $3K for a pair of good floor standers. However, used that could go even further.

Mitsubishi 30" LCD LT-3020 (for sale**)
Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand (Rosewood)-Mains (with Audioquest Mont Blanc cables)

Knowing the little I do about Steve, I'm fairly sure he is referring to a stereo pair ...

I will buy as high, or low as my ears make me feel good.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Whatever I buy next will be expensive/just what I want. I can't stand the thought of planning gradual upgrades. I'd rather drop more bills at first and not have to worry about spending more later.

I'm the single cheap vote. That's the market I'm in right now. I just snagged a sweet pair of KLH 23s for $40, some RS, some Tannoy in-ceilings. The most I've spent on speakers this month was $50 for a pair of bassbins using dual 12" Sunn drivers. They should be able to round out the bottom of some of my single-driver speakers.
    Make it Funky! :)

i think if i could only purchase fronts i could extend my budget to about 1000. if i were thinking about setting up a surround system (only 4.1 in my case, small room) then each pair would have to be about 400-600 a pair.

good thing i got these polk lsi7 on such a good deal... or i wouldve just gone with a pair of lsi7 or a pair of lsi9.
