Well, thanks to SteveInAZ's offer, I have joined the SVS CLub in a nice way, scoring his PC+25-31.

I have attached my "best response" chart.

I have two noticeable dips at 45-55Hz and 90-95Hz. My crossover is set at 55Hz and phase is at 180. Gain is at line "2". (It might need to be turned down just a touch.) I plotted both the SVS and SDA's alone to see if was getting cancelation in the 50Hz region, but the output was even lower when played individually. :(

Any tips on how to move the sub to possibly get better freq. response? Or do I need a PEQ? ($$:()

Wes
BTW, the SDA's delivered about 78dB uncorrected at 17.8hz!

Did you try the same test at a normal phase of 0?

Thats actually a pretty damn good curve. The level might be a tad high. How does it sound?

Yeah, I tried it. 180 degrees on the phase brought down that peak at ~40Hz about 3-4dB and I gained 5+dB on the super low stuff below 30Hz.

    Sounds just fine and dandy.

I figured I needed to turn the gain down a touch, but even if I get the gain right, that will still be a possible 6-8dB dip on an otherwise mostly flat curve that runs from about 92dB up to about 96dB.

    Oh well.

Agree, lowering level won't make you lose a dip, but I'm looking at the high levels from about 40Hz down...they seem on the high side. Your dips are relatively mild, and echoes the dip in the SDA by itself, remember the SVS is rolling off quickly at 55Hz (I think thats what you have it set at?).

Best thing to do now is start listening to alot of bass heavy CD's, if you notice any pluminess, reduce your level by 1/16" increments.

I think the big peak at 40Hz is due to the small listening area.

I figured if the the portion of the curve that contained the SVS matched the SDA's by themselves then phasing was just about dead-on. I may go ahead and bump the crossover to 60Hz just to be safe in my little dip region in the 50's and then start easing the gain down to smooth out the total curve a bit.

    Thanks again.

Would tuning the SVS to the 20Hz or 16Hz setting help smooth out the peak at 40Hz? Or would I sacrifice too many dB's below that 40Hz level?

Congrats on the PC+. I guess Steve couldn't fit it in his new house; his loss is your gain, I guess. :)

Setting the tune to 20 Hz (plugging a port and alter the tune switch to 20 Hz) will probably slightly reduce that 40 Hz peak, and also extend your response another 5 Hz on the bottom end.

Bump the sub level about 2 dB (over the 25 Hz tune) when you tune to 20 Hz in order to compensate for the loss of efficiency caused by plugging a port.

    Thanks, Doc.

If y'all didn't see my other post, I went ahead and rearranged my living room last night. I think it helped the SVS blend into the SDA's better and the 40Hz peak is still there, but not nearly as pronounced. Unfortunately, my dip in the 50Hz area got deeper. :(

I also have the SVS way out of a the corner. I think that helped quite bit as well to help it blend.
