I have RT800i's as my main speakers with a CS-350 Center channel. I want to add two more speakers to the rear wall. The wall is 4 feet behind my main seating position. These two speakers would be hooked up as my 7.1 speaker setup. I am on the fence between RT35's and FX500's. Which of these two would be recommended. My receiver is a Denon 3801.

My present setup has a pair of non Polk full range speakers in the front with 12" woofers, a pair of Polk 800i as the side surrounds,
a Polk CS-350 center channel and a non Polk 15" sub woofer.

The speakers I want to add are the LRS and the RRS which are about 4 feet behind the seating row. Between the seating row
and the wall are a flight of stairs.

i am currently running 35i's where your 800's are, and 25i's where you are looking to put the 35i or f/x500's. in your case, i would suggest the rt35i's. i think that direct radiator speakers are ideal for the 6/7th channels. if you were going to use a di/bipole speaker, i would put it where your rt800i's are now, and still use direct's for the rear. so 35i's is my vote...

do you have the means to bring both home and a/b demo them? that would be ideal, then you would know what you prefer best....

    good luck...:D

Right, so what about moving the 800i's into the rear positions for direct radiation, and either mounting or placing on stands the f/x 300i's at your sides? Just a thought, as it seems odd to have the 800i's in such a limited roll.

Actually, the 800's serve well as the back channels for DVD audio and the back wall is a staircase and no place for Floor mounted 800's. Without mentioning names, the present mains are comparable to the 800's and provide me with full range audio for all my music. I am very happy with the audio sound of my present speaker selection and want to take advantage of the 7.1 capability of my receiver. Hence the desire to add speakers to the back wall. Since the two back speakers in the 7.1 system play the same sound, I wasn't sure If I needed direct radiation provided by the RT35's or dispersed sound provided by the FX500's.
