What's up everyone
This is my very first thread on club polk. I was wondering if anyone could suggest placement for a second sub, or placement for the one psw505 I have now. I want the bass in my home theater to be more around the room. I want good bass response from all points of seating.

well I have heard that stacking them works well but for all the details I would suggest the DR. (Dr Spec)

Pickup an SPL meter from Radio Shack. Then you can see exactly how moving the subwoofer to different locations affects the sound levels.

For instance, my subs are actually louder from my listening position if they are on the right side of my TV. However, due to outlet and space constraints, I had to put them in the left corner.

When I got a second sub, I did more testing, and they sounded best stacked on top of each other.

    Dr. Spec holler at me.

In the current 10"/15" sub thread (found in this forum), I posted two hotlinks that discuss in detail subwoofer placement.

Polk also has a subwoofer placement guide that was also hotlinked.

Check out all three and that should be a good start.

I am having real good luck with a PSW505 in the left front corner of the room, and a PSW303 in the right rear corner of the room. I'm in an apt., so my listening levels are pretty low volume, and using these two subs together provides really nice bass presence at low listening volumes. I have both subs setting on two stacked 16" patio blocks to get them off the floor and prevent bass vibration from bothering the apt. underneath mine. I recently sold my PSW404 to a friend and got the PSW505, and it made a huge difference. I took the advice of this forum and got an SPL meter and calibrated my system, which also greatly helped!

So DKG999, you think I can come out better and save money by going with a 303 instead of an additional 505?

I'd play around with the meter first to find your optimal placement before putting down big money for another sub. A single 505 can hit pretty well if configured properly.

I agree, try it with the single PSW505 first. I had the PSW303 as my original sub, then got a very good deal on the PSW404 and decided to play around with that. Of course the temptation was too much when I was able to buy a new PSW505 for $299! Overall, the PSW505 seems to be much better at low volumes than the PSW404, and I'm impressed with it. Someday I'll grow up and get an SVS sub, but for an apt. system, it's kind of a waste!

I borrowed a friend who is an electronic's technician and had an older ocilliscope (sp?) that he said would do the job. He had it connected to his laptop PC and could overlay the response curves and graphs from each channel. I'm not going to try to technically explain it, because I couldn't do it justice! I think the SPL meter from Radio Shack is around $50 to $65 based on other discussions on this forum. It was amazing how inaccurate your hearing is when you can actually accurately show the sound level differences between channels.
