Hooking up my RM7200 speakers -- Polk says "No" to LFE

OK, this is my first time, (please be gentle).
I am setting up my first HT system and have some questions.
The Polk website recommends attaching the left and right front outputs from my receiver (Onkyo TXSR 601) directly to the subwoofer and then connect to the right and left speakers. Also they recommend setting the center channel to "normal" or "small" and the rear surrounds to "small"
Now since I am not using the LFE, and the TXSR 601 only has settings for "large" and "small", if I set the center channel to "small" will the receiver automatically send the low frequency signals to the sub (via the right and left speakers)?
Also, if I change the receiver subwoofer setting to "off" does the receiver's crossover setting actually do anything?
Thanks in advance for the help.

it will send the lower signals to your sub and not to your centre, I beleive most peeps set their centre to small even if they are not sats. I have mine set to small and I have the csi3
another reason for hooking it up the way Polk says is that if you listen in stereo mode you should still get bass(if Im not mistaken)

Since you are not using the LFE out, set the mains to Large, center and surrounds to Small, and sub to Off. The receiver will direct the bass from the other channels to the mains and the sub will filter out the bass there. The receiver crossover will affect the speakers set to small.Graham
