Lately, I have seen many sales for the Wharfedale brand speakers. Anyone know anything about this brand?

Can't speak for their HT systems, but I was a fan of the stereo speakers they made for many years. I haven't seen them in recent years anywhere in our area, have you?

Wharfedale is very well respected in audio circles, I believe Audio Advisor still sells them...

I think Wharfedale made quite a comeback in recent years with their current Diamond and Pacific series. The $200.00/pair Diamond 8.1 is highly rated. They even have some ultra-expensive as-big-as-a-refrigerator speaker out in Japan. Despite being one of the oldest name in British hi fi, they are currently own by the Hong Kong company that also own Quad, and recently purchased the brand Audiolab from troubled TAG McLaren.

Jensen MAY be worth looking into. I say this because during the 70's their speakers were so bad, they couldn't possibly have gotten worse. So MAYBE they got better.

    Jensen is bad?

Guess I just got lucky, eh?

Seriously, Jensen went 'bad' went the Recoton Corp bought them. Recoton trashed Advent, and AR also. NHT snuck through so far, but I don't think Recoton owns them anymore.

NHT is now owned by Rockford, also home of Hafler and MB Quart.

AR (Acoustic Research) is readying a new line of speakers under its new owner, who I can't recall right now.

Lucky is what I would call it. Sounds like somebody wants to re-build his daddy's old Jensens or something like that.

Actually, those are headed to a gentlemen in Tokyo. EVERYTHING vintage as far as tube amps, iron, and vintage drivers is headed overseas. What they are doing with it, I have no idea.

I just had a guy in South Korea pay $500 + $200 shipping for some untested, as-is RCA Iron from the 40's.

Won't be long before they start into the Solid State gear. I give it 2 to maybe 5 more years, before you won't be able to find ANYTHING 'vintage' thats worthwhile, and if you do, it's gonna cost you.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I'm talking currrent Jensen. The "Jensen" of the 70's was the ****, especially in the car speaker market. If you didn't have Jensen "triax's" in your car, you had crap.

    Ahhh, I remember those things.

My cousin's 77 Monte Carlo, white with the GM Rallye wheels, had Jensen Triax in the rear deck, and a Kraco am/fm cassette head unit. He hooked up a Realistic 10 band EQ/40w amp, and man, what wonderful tunes.

Wore out my AC/DC 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap', and Van Halen 'Women and Children First' tapes in that car.

Jensen 6"x9" co-axials were $69/pair. Now the tri-axials were $79 or $89/pair. Of course I had Jensen CAR speakers. The shop I worked in also sold Jensen home speakers and they absolutely sucked. This was your 1974-75 area.
