So I am not new to the Polk forums, was on here before as 2ndstorer but don't have access to that old email. Used to have a full Polk surround sound system and now the sub is with my parents, the monitor 40's are my mains and my son has the monitor 30's in his own little setup.
Now to the title. My daughter is moving into her apartment at college next year. She loves records and is an old soul. She has a manual '91 Ranger that she loves and even wants an old CRT TV with a VCR and DVD player. She's had a record player for years but no good speakers.
I wanted to build her a nice little system now that she has space and something that would fit with style she loves. Found a set of Polk 5jr+ on Marketplace for $80 and snatched them up. Cosmetically they aren't perfect but my daughter likes that. They have the SL2500 and one of them isn't working (hence the cheaper price).
After using the search feature (so F1Nut doesn't yell at me) I think I have a good game plan to getting these things sounding amazing again but want to make sure that what I'm thinking is correct.
With one tweeter bad, I was going to replace both SL2500's with RD0-198's from The Speaker Exchange. I will be getting JB Weld to ensure neither magnet shifts. I will also be dynamatting both the woofer and radiator on both speakers. Finally I am going to completely rebuild the crossovers with new inductors, resistors and caps. I have attached pictures of one of the speakers and all the components inside. I also have a screenshot of my cart from Part's Express after looking at the schematics posted on here and trying to find comparable components.
Would love feedback on my plans and please educate me on where I'm off on my plans.
Good to be back on the forums and I'm already on the search for some 7b's for myself. Lol

Dayton caps are the same as Bennic and should be avoided, period. Better choices would be Clarity CSA or Sonicap.
The Dayton resistor is no better than what you have already. Use Vishay-Mills instead.Political Correctness'.........defined

Gotcha. So better bet will be to run these.

Are the inductors fine? Or is there any reason I can't just de-solder them from the original boards and reuse them? -
Not sure I'd go with those inductors, since the AWG's are off, which could throw off the DCR. Unless you can measure the DCR of what you have really accurately of course and those match.

The CSA is a better choice, but the PX is way better than the Dayton. Resistor choice is good.
No reason you cannot reuse the original inductors and as stated, the ones you picked are not an exact match.
BTW, you can buy the tweeters directly from Polk.Political Correctness'.........defined

Perfect. I'll keep that in mind. And didn't realize you can still get them from Polk.
While going down the rabbit hole of wanting all the vintage Polk speakers, I decided to look through Craigslist on a whim. Well, saw this ad..
.
Messaged the guy and offered him $80 cash. And now I have a beautiful set of black Polk 5jr+ speakers that sound amazing. I'll end up doing the full upgrade on these and will get my daughter's just fully working. And start buying parts here and there to make improvements.
