Need to be 14" or so in height and around $300. Elac comes to mind. Any suggestions? Wish she could afford the Reserves.

They are just a bit taller, but I have a pair of cherry Lsi9's I've been thinking of letting go. Maybe trade them plus some cash for the SDA 2B's? I'm in Reading PA so no shipping involved.

Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500M II. They take a while to break in but they are very easy to drive and sound well balanced. They're not as good as the Polk Reserve R100s that are about the same size. They're currently $389 new on Amazon but can be found factory refreshed for around $310. I have a pair in my office at home that I got because they were half the price of the R100s. Bear in mind they are around $550 retail but are often on deep discount.

All of these are great recommendations, but the bottom line is that she needs to get her ears on some of these speaker options and decide what sounds best to her with the music that she likes.Enjoying the journey while never attaining the destination.

I have a pair of Mission MS-50's in the repair bench system. Small, like 10" but very impressive sounding and typically priced well below the budget mentioned for just the speakers. They were typically paired with a Denon UD-M50 compact 3-CD changer and stereo receiver.

I owned the VR-M60s and liked them a lot too.
I was just looking at some for sale yesterday or the day before.
