SRT restoration project

In need of some helpful input. Looking to restore an SRT system I've owned since new. Somehow this was one of the only things that survived a tornado some yrs back when my home was destroyed. I actually have multiple SRT systems now. I'd like to restore them all to original condition if possible. I have a number of 5 1/4" drivers the surround rings are in poor shape and looking to replace. Does anyone know of any sources for replacement rings? I've tried all the immediate sources ie.. amazon, ebay, Simply speakers, Springfield speakers and several others with no luck finding rings to match the dimensions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to have to throw these things in the garbage. lol

The rubber surrounds went bad? Any pics?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

As long as i can source the surrounds all is good. Just got all the supplies to restore the lacquer finish.

Had a conversation last night that may turn out as a blessing. I ran across a surround ring that was really close in dimensions but doesn't cover the face of the driver the like the originals do. I got into a conversation with seller and it turns out he works for the mfg company and mentioned he could reproduce the rings exactly as originals if I would send him a good driver to work with. Keeping my fingers crossed for now..

I bid you good luck. Personally I'm not aware of any company making the correct aftermarket rubber surrounds. There are some "close" for some drivers. Ultimately they are either too stiff or too soft which completely throws off the compliance of the driver motion.

Were these exposed to extreme heat? It appears that you have no good drivers in any of the cabinets. Even the tweeters appear suspect.

40 midwoofers need to be replaced! Yep, I counted them. And those are extremely rare. I have seen someone say that the surround material on those is somehow different (thinner and weaker?) than for other MW drivers made by Polk and they can degrade with time but that looks like something else happened. That may mean that if a professional speaker cone repair place does them they may need access to special surround materials and off the shelf stuff may not be ideal.
Was blowing out all of them actually caused by air pressure from the tornado? Insurance claim? Those speakers are really irreplaceable now.
How are the surround modules? And do the subwoofer drivers and amps work?
Sorry about the tornado and the loss of your home! -
Everything works. Only rings.. set that was in tornado needs some lite work on finish. Used after with no issues. Others I have suffer the same signs just not as extreme. 30 yrs of thin butyl-rubber. Rubber deteriorates!

I remember seeing comments a few years ago about the rubber surround deterioration on those drivers in the SRTs. Looks like they're not the same material construction as the original MW**** doped paper drivers with butyl rubber surrounds Polk used for its earlier speakers. Maybe because the SRT drivers weren't responsible for working together with a passive radiator and driver speed was a factor. Just a guess.
They are pretty shocking to look at. Butyl rubber normally holds up better than that. 30 years seems like it's on the low end for cracking to occur but it does happen at some point. But it's usually after the original buyer has kicked the bucket.
The long term amp and driver concerns were factors in my deciding not to get a set. -
Unfortunately, I am of the opinion that perhaps it’s best to let these go and look for another pair that’s already functional. It would be much cheaper in the long run.The Gear...
