I've Dreamed of Owning one of these since they were Current. Back in 2016 i settled on it's Step Down model, the BDP-05FD,

since it was Affordable to me at the time, while the 09FD was still a bit out of my general Reach.


Here in 2026, however, the Amazingly-Overbuilt BDP-09FD has at last Depreciated in Second Market Value

to the point that my Decade-plus old Dream has Finally been Achieved...

    That’s how ya do it when your audiophile budget exceeds your wallet.
    If you are not one of those people who MUST have the latest and greatest gear, then ya simply wait until the prices come down and pull the trigger!
    I’ve done this many times over the years.

    It is an awesome piece of equipment. Not only one of the best BluRay players ever produced but also a true audiophile-grade CD player too (even if it doesn't play SACD).

    They were originally $2,200 when they 1st came out in 2009 as a companion for the SC-09TX AVR which was released 6 months earlier with a $7,000 price tag.

    Pioneer spent 4 years developing the pair as their ultimate flagship statements for the Elite line. There were two problems they faced though. One was a decline in home theater and audio equipment sales and the other was there was an economic recession caused by the housing crisis and resulting melt-down of the US economy. The market was severely narrowed by these two factors. To add to that, Pioneer was facing a financial crisis.

    Subsequetly it didn't take long for both to be significantly marked down. I bought my BDP-09FD around 2012 for around $900. It was brand-new sealed in the factory box. One heck of a deal. I still have it today in mint condition. It works perfectly and never had any issues with it. It's definitely a keeper.
