Someone local is selling a pair of KEF Cadenza speakers, but I can't find any info on them. Any experience with them? Thanks, Jeff

Here is the actual KEF homepage link:

    Cadenza

It's a real old KEF, 70's, classic in every sense from that brand. They became known for using that oval PR design, and it shows up as a dedicated driver in the new Q series. They call it a "racetrack" driver. As long as they are cheap, buy them, I am told they sound pretty good. If the PR is foam, and at all rough looking don't bother, you'll have a very hard time trying to get it repaired.

The above link from shepx2 is a good one.

KEF are marvelous British loudspeakers with a warm, transient-rich tone that'll remind you of the early Polk monitors but a notch more sophisticated in every respect (IMO).

That oval driver MIGHT be a PR (KEF did make passives IIRC), but most were actually oval woofers called the B139.

KEF may be most famous for supplying the drivers for the near-legendary BBC's LS 3/5a specification for small broadcast/recording monitors. The LS 3/5a's were made by several British manufacturers including Spendor and Rogers and are highly-valued to this day (maybe in production again).

Polk was doubtless influenced by the "high-definition" loudspeakers of KEF, Spendor, and Rogers in the early 1970's.

I have always been a KEF fan, although it boggles me why I don't have a pair in the house anymore....grrrr. It's a fantastic speaker, and I love the concentric design and sound.
