Oppo UDP-203 noise on analog outputs

Last weekend I was having internet issues that prevented me from streaming, so I decided to pull my Oppo UDP-203 out of storage and plug it in so I could listen to some silver disks. After hooking everything up (Power connected to the same Furman Elite 20 PFI as all my other source components, and the analog L/R outputs connected to the AUX inputs of my Preamp), I discovered that there was a significant 60hz hum. So bad in fact, it blew the main 12A line fuse on my amplifier. I immediately unplugged everything when that fuse blew, replaced the fuse, and only connected the preamp and a tuner to make sure I didn't do any permanent damage to my system. I can probably use the digital output from the Oppo into an external DAC and listen that way, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with their Oppo player. My first instinct is to try replacing the SMPS with the one OppoMods offers to see if that eliminates the issue. In any case, I won't be plugging the Oppo into my main system again unless or until it is repaired. File this under "How to make your butt cheeks clench on a Saturday morning..." :#

I would connect it to a display via an HDMI cable and double check ALL audio settings first.

I would also pull the cover and do a visual inspection of the boards and blow out with compressed air, along with a DeOxit cleaning of all the back panel connections.

Then test it again with different RCA cables and some sacrificial gear (if you have any squirreled away).

If you have a multimeter, you might want to check the RCA outputs for any DC or AC bias with nothing playing. Anything more than a few mV might be an issue.

Have you used the Aux inputs on the preamp with another source component to test those using the same RCA cables?

I've never used the analog outputs on any of my Oppo products going back to the original generation, except for the balanced outputs on a 105 and 205, but I've also never had a problem with one. On the 203 the analog RCA outputs are for 7.1 channels and packed close together. It's possible that the FR or FL outputs have developed a wiring or short issue but unlikely.

Does the Oppo still power up and play discs with just the power connected to it?

I see a few comments online over the years about the 203 exhibiting a ground loop hum when connected to some systems but that's usually not going to cause a fuse to blow in another component and is sometimes caused by a cable TV box not being properly grounded.

I’ve never used anything BUT the analog outputs on any Oppo I’ve owned, going back to the BDP 83, then the 93, 95, 103 and finally 105. I’ve never had any issues on any of them, but I’ve never felt the need to spring for the crazy prices of the 200 series, so no experience with those. As previously stated, try different inputs on the pre, and possibly a factory reset on the Oppo. If you’re using a grounded outlet, try an isolator block too…
