Also see if the guy can glue the magnets for you so they don't arrive shifted or at the very least pack them extremely well (no bubble wrap). I use old paper bags crumpled up.

    Ahhh man. Bad news.

The guy was mistaken. He sold the 6511’s and it’s the 6510’s that he has in storage. He just went to his storage unit and verified that he has 6510’s, NOT 6511’s. :(.

I think I’m still going to take the crossovers and just run my 6510’s for now and see what it sounds like. I can’t imagine it’s going to be a HUGE difference. If so, I’ll try to get some 6511’s down the line.

    What do yall think?

Not trying to confuse you even more, I also have the CRS+ 1986 blade/blade version w/stands.

    I bookmarked the following thread of Neil's 4.1TL conversion of his 1989 CRS+ PIN/blade.
    https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/137026/my-new-4-1tl-039-s-are-complete/p1

Lots of great info. on it.

I also have a pair of SDA 2A's blade/blade, with the same crossover as our 1986 CRS+.

The cost to even recap these with two boards in each is a lot. Which is why I haven't considered it.
I need to practice recapping on a smaller Polk, maybe a 7B, first to get it down better. It's been years.

I'm thinking, when I get my 14' x 12' main floor den room ready, the CRS's might work well in there.
I may just put new tweeters in them and see how that sounds.

Great people here, get your learn on!

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Edit: Sorry, I thought you were new here for some reason. ;)

You can substitute the 6511’s with 6502’s. The trade off is a little less bass output, but better midrange. I’ve done it a few times myself.

ok cool..i'm gonna get those crossovers from him and just run my 6510's for a while...i'll keep my eyes open for the correct 6511's...or the 6502's...

anyone know anything about this "replacement" for the 6511?

I'd refrain. They have a 1.5" dia VC, and that dust cap is hideous.

Contact @F1nut for some spare 6502's

Looks cool, and generally phase plugs can be pretty helpful...

is this something you did yourself, or is there someone specific out there online that makes them? I"m just curious since I never saw them before.

    Mine are @xschop beauties.

The ones in the picture are from my 1C. I wanted to see how the sounded in the stereo slots of the CRS+.

There's a bit of a hubbub because the people using them in stereo models have, to the best of my knowledge, loved them, but! Only 2 of us, to the best of my knowledge, tried them on SDA models; I liked them in my 1C, but Polk legend DarqueKnight did not like them in his CRS+.

I'm up to mod any and all of these old Polks. I enjoy it. I've lucked out on my mods, so far, but am always prepared for failure.

As some have said elsewhere, these parts are getting hard(er) to find. If you mod your own, be sure you want to do it =)

If you're buying the mids already modded (to replace what's busted on yours, for a good price), go for it. I will say, I'm glad I have a set of modded and unmodded mids that fit both the 1C and the CRS+. I can compare how they sound. I'm still testing the arrangement to see what combo of plugged/unplugged I have in the 1C, but I do know at the very least) me-and-mine prefer the plugged mids on the stereo side.

cool..well thanks for the info. I didn't even know that was a thing people did to these speakers.

I think for now I'm just going to run the 6510's that are currently in my CRS+'s, and keep my eyes out for some stock 6511's so I can A and B them with the 6510's to see what kind of differences I notice. First I need to get these crossovers, rdo198's, caps, and resistors get this project underway. If I find some 6511's at some point..cool..if not, i'll live.

There are other plugged SDA's out there. A set of SRS-2's and a set of 2B's that I know of. I had my RTA-8TL's sideways, plugged, and SDA'd with CRS x-overs all year. I will be building another WAF-friendly tower set this summer with MTM configuration (think mini 3.1tl's).

Hey Steven, you should try a plugged 6502 in the SDA slot as well and tell us what you think.

If I get the 5B back from Dad, I'll swap and listen. I do have one 6502 with the 3D-printed test plug copy...

ok so I got the rdo198's this week, and I just got the crossovers and all that jazz in the mail today....now I need to order caps and resistors...

I see three caps and one resistor in each crossover (pic posted below):

    1. Yellow Mylar (I think) 12uf 100v
    2. Black Electrolytic (I think) 40uf 100v
    3. Blue I-have-no-idea 20uf 50v
    4. and lastly a 2.7ohm 10%5w resistor

so what all do I need here? and before someone says look at the schematic..I did..and I have almost no clue as to what any of it means...

I went on madisound to look for Clarity CSA caps in these values and couldn't find what I was looking for..

what do I need to order and where should I order it from? I'm trying to order all this asap and get these done because I have all kinds of other life-crap to deal with in the next few weeks...

Am I on the right track here?

Two of these, one for each tweeter circuit. I figure I should put the higher quality CSA cap in the tweeter circuit.
    https://madisoundspeakerstore.com/claritycap-csa-capacitor-250vdc/claritycap-12-mfd-csa-copperconnect-poly-cap-250v/?srsltid=AfmBOoqFvXgG6RF0dqiF6p2rU88GnRv7vWDOuVFEDgcEJgjBemoAKMeW

Two of these, one for each Stereo driver....

Then two of these, one for each Dimentional driver:
    https://partsconnexion.com/claritycap-capacitor-40uf-250vdc-px-series/

and are these the resistors I need..two of them to be precise?
    https://digikey.com/en/products/detail/vishay-dale/RN60C2701FRE6/21736030?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23434098130&gbraid=0AAAAADrbLlgoL5YqUm-9YCs1bHlZIx-xs&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7rDMBhCjARIsAGDBuEAYhb0VvdrRKEqJx_bHRRkl1sAsg1vPREsEykw3_3o-JNdng5k5_d0aAnQ2EALw_wcB

and lastly, i'm not sure what to get for the "5.8uF Electro" and "750pF Silver Dipped Mica" on the TL upgrade schematic. That's beyond my pay grade..haha...

do I at least have the caps and resistors correct so far? I wans't sure with the different names..copper connect, metalized polypropylene, etc...

F1Nut's parts list. I have a few missing things noted below in bold:

SDA SRS 4.1TL parts list (for both boards)

    Polk Audio tweeter
    (2) RD0198-1

Sonicap capacitor 5% or better tolerance
    (2) .1uF Gen II (replaces the 750pF Silver Mica) I thought I didn't need to worry about the 750pF Silva Mica? What is this for?
    (2) 5.8uF
    (2) 12uF
    (2) 20uF
    (2) 30uF
    (2) 10uF (combine the 30 & 10 to equal the needed 40uF as the largest cap from Sonicap is 30uF)

    Mills Wire-wound 5 watt resistor 5% tolerance
    (2) 2.7ohm MRA-5

    Cardas Quad Eutectic solder

A short piece of 20 gauge solid copper wire (to extend the lead on the 30uF cap) Where would I find solid copper wire like this? I only have stranded wire...I assume i'll need some for a jumper when I delete the poly switch?

Hot glue gun (to secure the caps to the board). I don't have one, but I can order one from Amazon easily...any specific glue I need or just any old hot glue will do?
