Speaker placement issue

I am likely to buy 2 Polk Reserve R700 on black Friday if they have them on sale. The issue is my space is odd and I have a staircase on the right side of my TV/receiver stand and that is where the right side speaker must go. The step is 8 inches higher that the floor so the right speaker will be 8 inches higher that the left side. Any thoughts how to raise the left speaker 8 inches off the floor?

I thought I could get 2 cinderblocks 8x8x16 and cover them with nice cloth but they would be about an inch short of the 12.6 x 16.9 footprint. This is in my man cave so I dont want something ugly but wife approval is not an issue. Fuctional is most important. I am not that handy with woodworking to make a wooden stand as all I have is a circular saw that came with other tools I actually use. But I could give it a try if its the best option.
Any creative ideas or products out there that will achomplish this?

Your right speaker tweeter would be way above ear level, which will have a negative affect on the performance.

You'd be better off getting bookshelf speakers and finding adjustable stands or having some made with one 8 inches shorter than the other.

  • I had not considered going wider. I am 12 feet from the TV/center. I can go from 8 feet wide on fronts to about 16 feet which is a little wide but will try it with my current speakers and see how it sounds. Thanks for the advice.
