Hey everyone!
I’m wanting to get some opinions on my current office setup and suggestions for an inexpensive DAC.
Right now my setup is this:
IPad running Tidal —> Apple Camera Connector —> iFi purifier —> iFi Zen DAC —> Parasound zpre 2 —> PreSonus 8” sub —> PreSonus zeros 3.5
For cables I’m running:
1. Wireworld Ultraviolet USB-B (Camera connector —> iPurifier)
2. Wireworld Solstic 8 RCA (Zen —> zpre)
3. MIT EXP2 (zpre —> Presonus sub)
4. Audioquest Component cable (Sub —> speakers)
So while this setup works just fine, and I’ve got no complaints in sound, it’s a decent amount of cables on my desk and I’m wondering if I can consolidate it down and eliminate the hardwire connection from my iPad in favor of wireless without spending a ton.
I’ve got a Chromecast Audio which I believe I can cast Tidal to from my iPad but the zpre doesn’t have an optical input nor does the Zen.
I’m curious if anyone has experience running a Tidal through the Chromecasts stock DAC and/or what a good INEXPENSIVE used dac with optical, USB, and maybe coaxial (so Ive got all the connection options) might be.
Thinking under say 125 only because I have a working setup already so I don’t want to spend a ton more. Prefer something small (I.e. not 17” wide) but can’t be too picky.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Couple quick notes:
1. I’m trying to shore up the backend up to the zpre as eventually I will be getting better speakers in the office.
2. I’m fine adding in some sort of optical to usb adapter of good quality so I can keep using the Zen
3. I’m aware of the WiiM stuff (Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra) as I bought a WiiM Pro Plus for my downstairs setup and it’s an option but looking to see what else might be out there
