This article is perhaps a reminder for us to remember what it's like in the early stages of exploring this hobby.

I don't think that (for the most part), the folks here at Club Polk are bullies. Many of us in this group bend over backwards to help newbies, and even highly experienced members, out. Sure, do some folks get ribbed a little bit when they come on here and ask, "Do I need an air hole?". I mean, come on. The cat was using a cardboard box for a sub. This is, after all, the internet and when a question like that is asked?
Well, answering the question with a straight face is admittedly hard to do.
Many times, on this board and others, people get bullied because they join to "educate" members on known falsehoods. There are even known falsehoods written in the article itself. You know the kind of folks I am talking about. The cats that come on and state (as fact) that cables don't make any difference at all. That ASR has verified this or that, and that Topping is all one would ever need. The ones that join this and other boards to educate folks who know full damned well that digital isn't just, "ones and zero's". It's way more complicated and involved than that.
So, my question back to the author is this. Is it these type folks that get bullied, or is it them that is doing the bullying?
Most of the regular and old school members of this forum simply like to share their experiences they have encountered in audio, talk about their own personal audio journey, and help folks out along the way.

I think some (most?) people are too easily offended if they get a short and to-the-point answer, usually to a question that’s probably been asked a million times and previously elaborated on.
Also, I come here realizing that I’m ignorant about most things audio. Maybe if there was more humility there would be less bullying?

Generally, the only time I see “bullying” here is when one of three things happen:
1. Someone asks a question or asks for advice, then proceeds to argue with the answer/advice given.
2. Someone asks for an opinion on a specific piece of gear, then gets defensive when others offer their opinion of said gear.
3. Someone makes a blanket statement (vinyl is better than digital, cables don’t matter, etc). If you spend more than about a day in serious pursuit of this hobby, it’s impossible to believe almost all blanket statements.

― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn -
The only thing I don’t like is when someone, for example, asks about an entry level piece of gear and is directed to a piece that costs twice as much. Part of the fun for me was getting that entry level gear and thinking it was great until I realized it wasn’t and I decided to upgrade. It’s the more expensive route in the long run, but it’s been a fun ride for me, and I’ve had several different pieces of gear in my system throughout the years.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Gotta define "bullying" first, there, broseph.
Getting your feelings hurt by the truth or reality isn't bullying. It's just reality and/or tough love. If this hurts you, wear a helmet 'cause life is hard, ain't it?
Getting your feelings hurt by someone who perpetually follows every post you make and turns it into a defecation slinging match is bullying. You have every right to be upset.
There are those who do the following and slinging that make a nuisance of themselves yet claim bullying when they are called on their behavior and/or poor decision making.
There are also those who are fairly blunt and straight-forward, calling a spade a spade.
Being a slinging nuisance is just as much of being a bully as an actual bully. The hypocrisy is palpable.
Being blunt and to the point with a seeming disregard for feelings is not bullying, it's just a lack of tact.
I blame it on a failure in parenting.
