We had our roof on the house and barn shed re-sheathed and re-shingled.

They did a FANTASTIC job on both!

^^^^^^Glad to hear they did a fantastic job. This old roofing dog needs to know more. How big was the crew? How many layers of old roofing? Is the debris gone? How many square? Drip edge and moisture barrier installed? Plywood or osb sheathing? Chimney pointed and reflashed?

    OK.

The house had sheathing put over the original 1x6 pine t&g boards. ;)

8 man crew I think it was.

6 and 7 at times on the house and ground cutting the sheathing and picking up debris. Then all worked on the housetop after it was re-sheathed.
Only 2 worked on the barn shed.

1 layer of old shingles on both buildings was removed. The roof decking is 3/4 x 6" t&g Pine. It is old and brittle and has holes and splits in spots. The roofer suggested for best results, new sheathing would be best for the new shingle job to last 20+ years. It should now outlast my remaining lifetime. B)

The debris, down to a couple of 1" squares has been cleaned up around both buildings.
But the rotten OSB on the underside of the old barn roof sheathing in a few spots fell into the barn as they ripped off the whole roof of the barn shed. My wet/dry vac will suck the oatmeal-like shreds in no time.

A huge dumpster was put on my driveway. Plywood under the dumpster rollers to protect the driveway. The dumpster Co. didn't have a med. size avail. But they provided a huge one for the same cost as a med. one since it could be placed here.

    1000sft house. 12' x16' barn shed.
In total, about 30 sheets of OSB were used on both.

Ice barrier around the bottom fascia and valleys. Then some kind of rolled sticky backed 3' wide shingle-like surface sheathing cover on the house only.

The barn got 3' wide roll of thin plastic-style material sheathing cover. It's like house wrap but solid, not woven. It rolled from front to back and was overlapped of course.

Old drip edges were removed and new ones were installed on both roofs. The barn shed didn't have any before.

Yes, the chimney had new flashing installed and flashed due to the sheathing changing the old level.

They started at 8 am and finished at 7 pm.
Just a little more needs to be done on the house they said. I just saw in the pics I took a minute ago that the ridge vent needs a few more caps. Maybe the chimney needs some more work too.

Looks and sounds like an excellent job. That's also great that they were able to get it done in one day. Congrats to you on having a new roof.

We're about to get torrential rain showers in a minute.

The radar keeps showing the storm line back up every time it gets near us.

    I like that!

It's a REAL phenomenon for us here in Wilmington.

There's been a thousand times in my 35 years here when the rainstorm bands get to the Cape Fear river and stop!

Then the storm bands go North. Hardly any rain falls on Wilmington and College Rd.. I live beside College Rd.

OR...The rainband comes eastward and SPLITS AROUND Wilmington, leaving us high and dry in those scenarios.

Today, the rain band did approach Wilmington, and MANY times the leading edge then disappeared. I'd call that backing up/off or what ever, the leading edge did the psych approach many times.

I was watching the radar image as it got close. I had roofers finishing up. Just as they finished, it started to rain. In 10 minutes, while we paid the roofing Co. owner, the rain band came in further.

    It's NO JOKE.

A town called Burgaw gets hit with the rainbands 99% of the time. It's 26 miles above us. Burgaw means MUDHOLE. Native Indians knew how to name areas.

If you haven't lived here, maybe you'll never understand this RIVER WALL that stops a lot of rainbands from soaking our area.

I think I have actually posted about Mother Nature doing the same exact thing here in upstate SC. I have no idea what would cause this, but it happens with a frequency to it. Some years are worse than others.

Are you SURE you guys aren't just seeing the time loop on the RADAR? 🤣

    It's a timeline. ;)

Then it replays IF you click re-play.

Then there is the forecast timeline.

Tony, do you happen to live within about 7 miles of the nuclear plant? I have a feeling the plant near me has something to do with the way the weather acts strangely sometimes in my area. Just curious.

Maybe 20 to 25 miles as the crow flies. The 2 red Xs are the nuclear plants. they're down low.

I think it's the river and a huge basin separating us from Leland NC. that alters the rain. Burgae is just above Rocky Point. The river is smaller there.

Wow, that brings back some memories. We lived in Ogden from 1998-2000. I worked in Leland at the time.

You would not believe the congestion that plagues this area AND Leland too now. Take a look at some maps.

Millions of people and cars plague the area now! :s

I've been here since 85. Bought my house in 86. I called this area a diamond in the rough. Then I-40 was connected and it's been build, build, build ever since. :#

I believe it. It was bad enough back then.

We enjoyed our time there and our daughter was born at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in March 2000, but Bonnie and another storm swore us off of ever living near hurricane country again. So beautiful, otherwise, though and the people there were great.
