Still using my Panasonic zt, bought it new.
I don't know but, the picture still can compare with the new offerings. Sports are best on plasma tv's.

I currently have 3 OLED and probably will buy another later this year. That technology is superb.

With that said, the Pioneer and Panasonic plasmas from the last couple of generations are still hard to beat.

I watch my Panasonic plasma every day. Beautiful movie like picture. Saw a new TOTL Sony at a friend's recently, so hyper-detailed that it is unrealistic.

The only heat from it is if I put my hand over the top where the vents are. Definitely does not add heat into the room.

I have to stand corrected. I haven't done this in years...just put my hand over the top where the vents are, blowing cool air and the TV has been on for hours.

I just checked my Panasonic plasma TV that's been on for hours and it is just warmer than room temperature

For those stating your plasma is/was a space heater, are/were you running it in torch (vivid) mode?

It was the earlier models. The 720p panels were not bad, but my Panny was the 1st year of 1080p resolution and it was a space heater. A couple model years later, they managed make panels that used half the power.

    Agree with this guy ^…..

I’ve always ran mine in THX Movie mode and it’s just a tad over room temp out the vents.
I religiously vacuum the vent areas and the whole backside to keep good air flow.

Unless watching 3D movies that are dark then it was played in the THX Bright mode, it would get warmer than normal viewing but not objectionable.

I like watching golf converted to 3D.
Only way to see how difficult the game is when you can see ground contours as if standing there and watching.

We have lots of blu-ray 3D movies and am saddened the new TV’s do not have that option.
I would imagine with the brightness increase, with todays panels, it would be cool to see how 3D would look on these new super duper TV’s.

For those that didn't own a 2007-2008 era 1080P plasma, they might not have experienced the space heater. Mine heated the room, trust me. Not in torch mode. Calibrated for dark room on Cinema mode. The suckers just used a lot of electricity to make the image in the early days.

About every 15-20 yrs the 3D thing raises its head. 3-4 years it burns its self out and back into the hole to rest for some years. The expensive $100 active glasses did it in the last time around. On top of the player and TV cost you had to buy 4-5 hundred dollars worth of glasses for your family to be able to also enjoy the show. They also had glasses non-active 3d glasses yet folks didn't like those either, especially if you wear glasses daily.
