Still using my Panasonic zt, bought it new.
I don't know but, the picture still can compare with the new offerings. Sports are best on plasma tv's.

I currently have 3 OLED and probably will buy another later this year. That technology is superb.

With that said, the Pioneer and Panasonic plasmas from the last couple of generations are still hard to beat.

The only heat from it is if I put my hand over the top where the vents are. Definitely does not add heat into the room.

I have to stand corrected. I haven't done this in years...just put my hand over the top where the vents are, blowing cool air and the TV has been on for hours.

I just checked my Panasonic plasma TV that's been on for hours and it is just warmer than room temperature

For those stating your plasma is/was a space heater, are/were you running it in torch (vivid) mode?

It was the earlier models. The 720p panels were not bad, but my Panny was the 1st year of 1080p resolution and it was a space heater. A couple model years later, they managed make panels that used half the power.

    Agree with this guy ^…..

I’ve always ran mine in THX Movie mode and it’s just a tad over room temp out the vents.
I religiously vacuum the vent areas and the whole backside to keep good air flow.

Unless watching 3D movies that are dark then it was played in the THX Bright mode, it would get warmer than normal viewing but not objectionable.

I like watching golf converted to 3D.
Only way to see how difficult the game is when you can see ground contours as if standing there and watching.

We have lots of blu-ray 3D movies and am saddened the new TV’s do not have that option.
I would imagine with the brightness increase, with todays panels, it would be cool to see how 3D would look on these new super duper TV’s.

For those that didn't own a 2007-2008 era 1080P plasma, they might not have experienced the space heater. Mine heated the room, trust me. Not in torch mode. Calibrated for dark room on Cinema mode. The suckers just used a lot of electricity to make the image in the early days.

About every 15-20 yrs the 3D thing raises its head. 3-4 years it burns its self out and back into the hole to rest for some years. The expensive $100 active glasses did it in the last time around. On top of the player and TV cost you had to buy 4-5 hundred dollars worth of glasses for your family to be able to also enjoy the show. They also had glasses non-active 3d glasses yet folks didn't like those either, especially if you wear glasses daily.

Bought my 65" Panny 3D from Sears in 12/2011. In use every day & the picture still looks fantastic. No real heat issues, a bit warm but unnoticeable unless right on top of it. Man I miss my Sears store!

    Still using 3 Panasonic plasmas.

I believe I have my model numbers correct...

First is the 50" S series from Costco, which utilizes the smooth somewhat non-reflective panel from the ST50 but with the "S" series display. I believe it's named the "S54" being a Costco item. This is our main TV in the living room. Was a bargain at $750 new in 2010.

The guest, game/small theater room we have a 50" ST60 and I have been debating swapping the 50's but the S54 looks good enough that it can remain upstairs. Besides, the guest room is pitch black and the ST just looks very good when the kids want to watch movies or play games. Also have the RT setup in there, Rt 800, CS 400, FX500.

My main theater panel is the VT65 which I had calibrated my Gregg Loewen of Lion A/V. Let me say you don't know what you're missing until you get one calibrated. The picture went to what I thought looked good, to a near 3D immersion. Absolutely worth every cent. They use 2 different high $$ cameras pointed right at the screen in a darkened room to establish the correct greyscale, then layer color on top.

I agree with Jesse, I have seen some really high end panels and they just don't look real. When I see the vivid detail and color, I ask myself, is that what outside or people's faces look like? Maybe if they were calibrated and toned down, and viewed from 20'+ away...but I'll keep my plasmas.

When I bought our zt plasma I chose the 50” purely about cost, I couldn’t afford the 65”.
Sure wish I had bit it and gotten at least the 65”. I still am amazed everyone it gets turned on.

Does anyone know an easy way to get to the viewing hours screen on the Viera?

I wanted a ZT, but I couldn’t resist the deal that I got on an open box return ST from Best Buy. So cost was definitely a factor for me as well!

I might very well still have my Samsung PNF8500 64" plasma but the one time we didn't insist my daughter (6 yrs old at that time) wear the Wii remote strap while playing "bowling" or we don't play......she sailed the remote into the upper left corner of the screen.

My ex (married at the time) did the inhale screech and didn't breathe for five days as we saw the great white flash of light go to black.

I just sat there....blinking.....then calmly said, I saw what she did....I walked over to the display and started pressing the power button in lower left side of the Frame.

My ex asked, what are you doing?? I (still calmly lol) said, she just hit the power button with the remote, it'll come on....my ex says, oh honey, you're in shock as I replied, no I'm not, it'll turn back on......

Finally convinced it's not going to turn back on, I sat back down....STUNNED.....my ex said, you can cry, scream, cuss, whatever you want to do. I said, no, it's just a TV...but on the inside......I was crying like a baby especially when we took it down and put the LG 50" plasma in it's place....NO COMPARRISON.

On the plus side, I held onto that boat anchor for a couple of years, stashed behind my bed, Video Only always had the deals and one was, "Bring in any TV and trade it in for a new one", they took my boat anchor on a new 65" QLED.

Speaking of deals, that 64" retailed for 4200.00....Video Only sold it to me at under cost which was 2000, they had to figure in tax and I walked out with it for 2K even.

@Geoff4rfc Yeah...ouch is right. I can imagine that inside pain.

We had a young nephew over, I think he was about 5 or 6YO, playing MarioKart with our kids on the 65" VT-60. He lost and was frustrated, and had that look on his face. He drew back his arm with controller in hand and the few seconds of me seeing that being about 10' away seemed like one of those bad dreams when you are running from something but your legs feel like they are buried in the sand...lol. I was able to thwart disaster and that was the end of the gaming session...pretty much indefinitely.

I later found out that evening he had done the same to their LCD TV a few weeks prior, threw the controller and cracked the panel.

To clarify my model #, The Costco variant is a TC-50PS64. 50" S60 with the ST-60 front panel but the S60 display, purchased in 2013, not 2010. Nice combination of parts for the price.

My wife was the WORST with discipline...her two daughters would sit across the room from her with their backs turned to her while she tried to explain what they did was wrong...and get away with (nightmare living with them).
When "our" daughter was in pullups and was way out of line, I'd give a swift pop across her pullup and she'd turn and look at me, eyes wide and starting to well up, I'd say, don't cry, just know your mom told you no and don't do that again.

Later, sitting in the kitchen, she was acting up again and my ex said, see, she won't do like I ask, I said, just give her a little pop across the azz. So she said, girl, I'm going to give you a butt spank, the little one looked at her turned her butt to her and said, go ahead......I laughed and said, you're obviously doing it wrong......

Hell we’d get whipping at school from teachers and deans, deans were usually coaches.
Neighbors, bus drivers. My father met the bus driver the first day of school and told the bus driver you have our permission to whoop their **** if needed. And, wasn’t just my parents that told the driver that!

We didn’t get anywhere near as many as we should have😳
