Gauging interest for an H/K AVR525. I am leaning toward selling this receiver, but I want to give fellow Polkies first crack at it. $480 (or best reasonable offer) shipped/double boxed for the lower 48 States.
This receiver was originally purchased from Onecall, an authorized dealer, in December of 2003. The 525 has about 25 hours of usage on it. It is 9 out 10 in Audiogon scale rating. I like the warm, smooth and non-fatiguing sound that the 525 produced, but I don't like the 1-2 second delay during the layer change-over. This has been documented on many receivers like NAD, Marantz, Outlaw and others, so it's not uncommon on many receivers. All Harman Kardon receivers has the 1-2 second delay during the layer change-over; most people do not mind the delay, but it bothers me. I use a cheapie Apex DVD player w/coaxial digital connection to the 525, and there is one to two seconds delay in the layer changeover, which bugs me. This is the reason I am leaning toward selling receiver. My dvd player does not have the optical digital connection, but my guess is there still is one to two second delays for the layer change-over. This receiver comes with two remote controls (one is for the second zone). I still have the original two boxes and packaging materials.
The 525 is a 7-channel amp receiver with multiroom/zone2 capability. MP3 decoding built in. Proprietary Logic7 to up-convert incoming stereo signals up to a FULL 7.1(DPLII maxes out at 5.1), Triple crossover adjustment with bass management for SACD,DVD-A that allows you to set different x-over points for center, mains, and surrounds (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 200 Hz). EZ Set which automatically calibrate your speakers. Pre-outs for external amps connections.
Specs:
45 amp, 85 high current watts x 2, 70 high current watts x 7, all channel driven. HomeCinemaChoice magazine tested the European version of the H/K 525 (AVR 5550) at 90w x 5, 105w x 2 and gave the 525 a glowing review. This review is under http://www.homecinemachoice.com/

I just purchased another receiver from Emlyn, so this receiver is officially for sale. I am using the Harman Kardon to drive the center and one pair of rear speakers, and the receiver is never driven hard by me. There is no scratch that I'm aware of on the receiver, and the receiver is still under warranty until December of 2005.
