SL2500, RD0198-1 tweeter positive/negative terminals?

On my SL2500 tweeters, there are no polarity markings, only small/large terminals. Generally, with most speaker manufacturers, the small terminal is negative. On my M5 Series 2 speakers, the black wire (+) is connected to the small terminal. This implies these tweeters are wired in reverse polarity. (this is done quite often in speaker design)

Does Polk follow this general practice, or is the small terminal positive?

Note, my replacement RD0198-1 tweeters have a red mark on the small terminal.

    Black wire positive
    White wire negative
Big to big small to small
    Super simple.

Yes, but is the small terminal on the SL2500 positive or negative? That would tell me if the M5 Series 2 tweeter is wired in phase, or out of phase.

(I have seen it posted in this forum that the small terminal on Polk tweeters is negative)

SL2500 is wired the same as 198

The 194 has two small tabs that connect the wires, SO in that respect the small "terminal" is negative.

The SeriesII schematics from Polk (don't have the 5) all show the tweeter wired in normal polarity. Makes sense because it is a 2nd order crossover and Polk didn't reverse the polarity on any other Monitors that I know of, which had the 2nd order crossovers. They may have reversed the tweeter polarity in the RTA12 but that was probably for phase alignment with the setback tweeter.

That was to bring the tweeter back into phase as the signal was reversed due to the crossover in the RTA12
  • Thanks everyone for the confirmation that the small terminal is positive, and the M5 Series 2 tweeters ARE wired in phase.
