How to fix Signa 4 soundbar sync with Sony TV?

Hi, I've been experiencing this issue with my Signa 4 ever since receiving it and hooking it up to my Sony TV. Sometimes, I have no issues with the handshake maintaining my soundbar as the external audio source, but occasionally the TV will not maintain the connection and automatically switch back to the TV speakers. Even manually switching back to the soundbar source fails after a few seconds.

My TV model is a Sony XR-65X90CJ. I have the soundbar plugged into it via HDMI eArc. Yes, I have checked the cables multiple times, including the power cable, and all seem fine.

A while ago I called Polk customer service and they took me through some steps to troubleshoot this issue in the TV settings, but I cannot remember what those steps were. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello,
Welcome to the Polk forum. I found this in the Sony's owner's manual, I hope it helps:

What happens when you turn the TV speakers down to zero and turn the sound bar sound up? I run a 3.1 stereo system with 3 dedicated speakers and a sub. My Sony Bravia 950G will not keep the "external" speaker selection, it will always revert back to TV speakers time after time. I turn them (TV speaker) to zero and run the AVR sound and it works just fine.

Thanks, I did actually have this turned on apparently, but some of the other toggles in that menu were off, so I've toggled them on to see if they prioritize the soundbar.

This actually did seem to work! I set the TV sound to 0 and turned the soundbar off and back on and then the TV seemed to prioritize that automatically. Hopefully this remains consistent. Thanks!
