(Possibly) Strange SDA Behavior

I installed speakons as part of an 800va dreadnought addition. While the paint dries on the case, I rigged up a temporary IC. I'm using some jumper wires between the panel connectors that will eventiully be mounted to the dreadnought case then running the speakon cables to each speaker. My amp keeps throwing faults when I have the grounds (blades) connected. I can run them seemingly fine with just the pins connectors jumped--no amp errors and sda sound is passed. I checked all the new wiring and continuity and polarity are fine back to the crossover boards. I measured my stock IC and there is considerably more resistance on the blade connector. Would the absence of this when using a jumper cause the issues I'm seeing? I'm assuming the transformer will add some resistance but I'm looking for some confirmation before I add more complexity to the system. Thanks for the help

Which amplifier are we referring to?

I'd say you have mis-wired the Dreadnought.

It's a wiim amp. Dreadnought is not in place. It's functionally 12awg pin-pin and blade-blade, through speakons. Had no issues with the sane amp and the stock ic

You don't use the blade connections unless you are using an isolation transformer. That is your problem.

Edit: it wasn't clear in your post that you were not using the Dreadnought in your little experiment. Hence, my comment that you mis-wired the transformer.

  • Got it. Happy to hear what I am seeing is normal. Out of curiosity, what does the original SDA IC do between the blades? I'm getting readings in the Mohms

Inside the speaker the blade wire goes to ground at the negative speaker binding post.
  • I saw that. Safe to assume the original IC does not connect the left and right blades? Or does it have a big resisitor?

    No resistors.
Only the pin carries the signal.
The blade comes into play with non-common ground or monobloc amps and only then with a transformer either the A1-cable or a purpose built 800va or 1000va.
