L800 side wall issue
I have a chance to get a pair of L800 for a good price but only have 25 inches to the side walls on both sides. I currently have LSi15’s. These would go in my home theater room.
The manual mentions less than 36 inches is possible with side wall absorption.
Is it possible to make these work? If it’s not possible is it still worth having over the LSi15?
I have a set of 1.2tls in the listening room and have no desire to replace those with the L800
Thanks for any advice
Jeff

I can't speak for the L800 but I would think that the LSi15 would not sound right that close to the wall. I did not like mine until I rearranged things and got them away from the side walls and the back wall.Stan

Got any room to the inside?
I think some have been able to place the L800s directly next to a cabinet on the inside faces, but in my space, I found they sounded best with a bit of room at the inner and outer faces.I disabled signatures. -
100 in LED inside. Would block the picture if any closer.
They come with the atmos speakers but I already have 4 in ceiling for 7.2.4 system.
I would be fun to go head to head with 1.2’s. I never thought I would replace them. My kids already argue over who gets them when I die!
Will probably get them and hope I can make them work.
I have been wanting to hear them for a while now.
Thanks for the responses.

Are your 1.2s modded or stock?
One of the members sold his 1.2TLs after getting the L800s.I disabled signatures. -
Stock. Plan is to mod one day.

I misunderstood. I thought you had the 1.2s in the space you were considering the L800s for. That's what I get for not reading. I never made it past 4th grade.
L800s are more for music, but you can use them in a combo use system. I've found the audio to present on an arc, which gives a little bit of surround.
Have you considered the R700s?
Any particular reason you want the L800s for this space?I disabled signatures. -

Your stock 1.2TL crossover components are way past their prime, so are the SL3000 tweeters. So, a bit unfair to compare to the L800.

For that room, get the R700. I finally got to hear them in action in an HT rig...nice.Political Correctness'.........defined

I have replaced the tweeters. Need help with the crossovers
I can get the L800 for the same price as the R700. -
The L800s would work but just wouldn't be ideal in the space to get the full SDA wrap around the speakers are capable of. I eliminated my side surrounds eventually when I figured out the L800s were presenting a pronounced surround effect by themselves. They also work best at least a foot or two from the front wall unlike the original SDAs. I agree that the R700s may be the best option that Polk has now.
The L900 insert module is powered separately from the rest of the speaker and there's no harm in leaving them not connected. -
Thanks.
I am going to get them. I can either replace the 1.2’s or use them in the Thester room. I can also use them while redoing the crossovers on the 1.2
These already have the L900 attached. I won’t be using them as I already have 4 in ceiling speakers for the 7.2.4 setup.
Is there anyone on the forum that can do the crossover work for me?
I don’t come around as often as I used to, but always enjoy it when I do.
Good folks here -

That full wrap around presented by the L800 is exactly why I did not like them. The original SDA speakers gave a wide soundstage with a slight bow out to the left and right sides, basically how one would hear live music. The L800 music presentation is unnatural, IMO.Political Correctness'.........defined

They do not do the wrap around thing in my setup. The soundstage is deeper than it was with the 1.2TL's, but not taller. It is also wider than the old-school Polks. Overall, in my space, the Legend are a much better fit, and for my wide-ranging musical tastes, a better speaker. The Gear... I like the L800’s over the 1.2TL’s I had as well, I’m sure the room plays a huge part.
With that said, I’m liking my 2.3TL’s in my room, and have not thought about putting the L800’s back in place.
I might play around with swapping them out at a later date..
The 2.3TL’s are a much better fit for my room than the 1.2TL’s from my sitting position..
