Downsizing my system and need advice

Hello Polk community, this is my first post. Thank you all in advance.

My previous setup was: Onkyo A/V Receiver TX-NR6100; Polk RTI-a7 towers; Polk S35 center channel; Polk Audio OWM5 rears.

My old condo was probably too small for the above, esp the RTIs, but it worked as I had the space. I've moved into a new condo and I think I want to reduce the footprint of my setup, esp the RTIs.

My combined living room /dining room is 14' x 18' and the duplex loft has 20' ceilings. I've already sold the RTIs due to their size (I will miss my babies) and I'm trying to decide between the following two options. Any help very much appreciated.

OPTION 1
Keep S35 as a center channel and buy bookshelf speakers.
I've done some research and I believe I want speakers with a smaller footprint than the RTIs. I really like the idea of on or even in wall speakers, but I have no idea how to judge these things. Another option I'm considering are Polk S15s. They are deeper than I'd like, but looks like I could mount on the wall to save space.

OPTION 2
Use S35 as L/Rs and maybe even C.
I like the sound of the S35 enough (nothing like the RTIs). It's also a relatively small footprint. Polk says it can be used as L/R speakers as well. So buy another S35 for my L/Rs and then either a third for the C or a lot of people online say they prefer the S30 as a center. Maybe get a subwoofer as the bass on the S35s is lacking.

Again, thanks all in advance. I wish I had a Frys or other store I could go to to test out different speaker configurations. But these have mostly gone the way of the dinosaur near me.

Is that the ES35? If so, two more wouldn't be a terribly bad idea as they have wall mounting slots on the rear for vertical positioning.

Sorry you had to lose your A7's, I hear they were the sweet spot in the RTiA series.

  • Geoff,

No I mean the Polk S35. Or the Signature S35.

    Ah, my bad.

I looked at the S35 but couldn't get a rear view to see if it had vertical mount slots. If they do, then why not give them a try as L/R?

If you want a bump in performance while achieving on-wall options the Reserve R350 may work out well for you as an L-C-R setup with the same speaker in each front position. That's what they were designed for.

My OCD would go into overload with the Polk emblems being sideways...

The product specs do indicate horizontal or vertical orientation is possible. (scroll down, expand Center Channel Speaker section)

Your not going to save much floorspace unless you wall mount the left and right. That's a compromise that I wouldn't make.
