New to this group so I'll apologize up front if this topic has already been covered. Recently, I acquired a pair of AR 2ax speakers from the original owner. Both have been sitting in their original packaging for decades. Both speakers are in beautiful condition and never been apart. Their history was of a jazz & classical reinforcement so safe to say they have never been abused or subjected to high power rock. One of the woofers is scratchy so my thinking was the possible debris in the air gap. Speaker surround is the cloth-based material so all good there. At the magnet, I removed the three phillips head screws and the single 7/16" hex bolt. After very light tapping around the perimeter of the magnet, it did separate from the cast basket however the voice coil is now stuck in the gap. I suspect the segments of the magnet shifted just enough to result in this misalignment. Am I sunk or is there a way to separate the magnet from the coil?
