SDA SRA 1.2 sporadic left channel tweeter issue.....

I'm noticing some sporadic left channel issue with the SRS 1.2 where it seems that the tweeters cut in an out. I can't tell what would cause that, do you think it could be a cross over issue developing? I've used different sources of music/input and it still does it sporadically. I guess it would be a speaker wire or the interconnect cable between the two or but I'm not sure.

If you swap to the other channel, does it still have the issue. If not then it is something other than the speaker. If the issue follows the speaker than it is an issue with the speaker and likely with the XO or internal wiring.
Oh make sure the jumper interconnect on the back of the speaker is secure.Stan

The polyswitch is tripping early due to age/abuse.
A polyswitch is a thermal reset device. Once tripped it becomes increasingly sensitive.
Most replace them with a 0.5ohm resistor of at least 5 watts. Mills-Vishay are a good choice.
What are you powering them with?Political Correctness'.........defined

Thank you all so much for your help so far. I intent to swap the channels when I can get it to replicate the problem again to determine if it's the signal, the amp, or the speakers themselves. I have a feeling that it's related to longer extended use, therefore, heat, therefore probably the thermal switches. I don't know these speakers yet and haven't opened them up to see what's inside. Does anyone have a how to on changing thermal switches?
At the moment, I'm powering them with an entry level two channel integrated Yamaha. However, I just ordered a PS audio preamp and mono block amps that are on their way. -
Mono blocs and SDA's, dreadnought in the picture?

Not yet, I literally just learned of this. Thank God I ordered the preamp and mono blocks but they aren't in yet. I would have fried them without knowing about this common ground issue. Thank you for bringing that up too. My guy, Trey from vr3mods.net just informed me about this. I need to get one for sure.

Don't bother swapping anything, it is the polyswitch.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thank you, and I just learned that I should be able to bypass them by twisting the long leads together, they are blue and behind the connecting posts? Is that correct?
-
You will increase the treble output by doing that and therefore cause the sound to be out of balance.

what do you recommend then instead? Wiring in a resistor?

I believe I already stated that.Political Correctness'.........defined

Okay, please forgive me. I do apologize. Perhaps it's because I'm new, perhaps it's because I'm anxious , compromised, and asking a lot of questions, but there seems to be a tone of annoyance or frustration that I'm detecting in some of your responses F1nut And if I'm wrong about that, please accept my apology for that as well. I do appreciate you and your help, I do recognize that you and others are taking time out of your day to be attentive to me. If my perception is right, however, that there is an air of sarcasm, judgement, or frustration, I am asking and suggestion for my benefit, for the benefit of others, that perhaps you extend just a little bit of grace or patience please. Thank you. While my circumstances do not matter in the realm of this forum, they are significant to my life and my family. I am asking these questions because music is very important to my family. My wife passed a few months ago and we have 3 children and my father lives with us. We are trying to heal through music, so I have investing a lot of time and money into creating the opportunity and space for us to do that in our home. My father does a lot of us and always has, asking for nothing in return. So, when I gifted him these SDA SRA 1.2 speakers, it's has become very important to me that they operate in tip top shape. I do have tight budgets to work on, though you warned me about ever mentioning that again, I do have limited time and availability and bandwidth to manage all of these things on top of grieving, being present for 3 teenagers, and being self employed as a therapist to people in need. I digress and I do apologize for sharing in this way. It's 3am and I am cannot fall asleep, so I admit that I am compromised and sensitive. Please, please, ignore my rambling nonsense and know that I truly appreciate everyone's help and guidance. I am sorry to have shared in this excessive way.Post edited by GreggyG on
