With an update the Pros can become hearing aids for mild to moderate hearing loss. Apple about to turn the hearing aid business upside down! For $250 you can get the pros.

Potentially huge news! Many people wouldn’t even know if they have mild hearing loss, but since AirPods have both a microphone and speaker technology, they could become hearing aids that you don’t have to hide by their tiny size. AirPods have become so ubiquitous that’s it’s not surprising to see people wearing them.
They’re also very comfortable — in part thanks to the bud tips that are available in four sizes, and replaceable for $13 including 1-2 day shipping.
One potential downside in my experience is that they have a tendency to slip out when worn for longer periods, especially if you’re moving around doing things. Maybe they’ll develop a different type of ear tip in the future that holds more securely.Alea jacta est! -
I have a paid of Jabra Elite 85t that seem to have most of that functionality though not marketed as hearing test or hearing aid. The app can play a series fo test tones for each ear and you indicate when you can hear it as the level is increased. They use it to set the equalizer for your hearing frequency response. It also has "hear through" that can amplity ambient sounds, though I don't think that was the intention. It seems that tweaking the app could do the same as Apple. The technology has been there. Apple just thought of a clever purpose.Stan

Jabra have actual hearing aids in their range, but they cost $1-2K and the sound might not be as good as AirPods Pro according to reviews. They also require a behind the ear module.
One difference is that AirPods Pro can only last 4-6 hours so they wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with more severe hearing loss, but they are FDA approved as a hearing aid.Alea jacta est!
