Question about RTA-11tl tweeters

Picked up a set of RTA-11tl's with the SL-3000 tweeters. Anyone know if these have ferrofluid? They sound like crap. Wondering if they do and may be the fluid is dried to gunk. Thanks!

Finding that both MW in one cab were reverse wired and changing that helped a lot... Whats crazy is it looks as if it had always been that way.

$100.00 why not. Got SDA-SRS2's, RTA-8t's, SDA-CRS (TL), Lsi 15's and SDA2b's, can always take on another set of Polks. May well 198 em.

Took one of the old SL 3000 tweeters apart. Burnt voice coil as expected. However there was ferrofluid in there.

I am not too surprised. One of the crossovers in my RTA11TL had one of the bypass caps losely attached (not soldered) to the one soldered to the board. I recall someone saying a lot of dope was involve in the assembly process of the speakers in that era.

I seem to recall someone years ago asked Polk whether they had ferrofluid in them. The answer was no. Judging by the photos they definitely do.

Yeah Jesse leave it to me to find and buy an "experimental" set of Polks. One cab with both MW reversed polarity and ferrofluid where there should be none. That is just so far. We will see more I am sure after I dig in to the crossovers. I think @boston1450 may well be right!

The answer from whomever that was at Polk could easily be wrong.

Maybe someone here has an SL3000 they'd be willing to take apart for a look see.

Well I really like the RDO-198 tweet so will probably pick up a set to put in em. Far as the MW, yes. They are all factory correct MW 6510's. Information I would not have if it were not for this site and the people here so thanks to all for all of that. Are we still able to buy new tweeters from Polk or are we buying from a third party now like Mid West or god forbid eBay?

198's arrived. Had to go ahead and put them in even though I have done nothing to the crossovers..yet . Good lord what an improvement getting those MW back in phase and these two tweeters made. The speakers are listenable now. Thank you all for your comments and help. I was very pleased to find that we may still order replacement tweeters for these speakers. They are like 30 years old now?
