RTA 12B cabinet “stands” repair

I bought RTA 12b’s in the pics a few months back off marketplace for 150 bucks from the original owner. Overall in very good shape. Came with both grills and both top covers (amazingly, only missing one corner bracket between the two). They sat in previous owner’s parent’s basement for a number of years and the only thing wrong with them is the bottoms got wet a little bit so they are peeling and crumbling. (There was a water leak in the basement at some point.) I’d like to repair them but I’m wondering what’s the best way.

First, I considered just making a “frame stand” out of actual wood to set the speakers on, so there are not sitting on the original ones at all. Just leave them be.

Second, I considered maybe I could repair the originals with wood filler, glue, clamps, etc. But that seems high effort and low chance of success.

Third (and perhaps ideally), I considered if I could simply remove and replace them with better wood. I’m not really concerned with getting matching laminate, but would just stain them close to the original cabinets. It appears they are just screwed into the base of the cabinet from the bottom. Anything else holding them on, like glue as well?

Anybody ever repaired the bottom stands on larger Polk speakers and if so, what did you do?

Good afternoon. If I were in your shoes, I would simply remove the base altogether and install some spikes that have floor protectors, so you don't damage the hardwood floors. Something like this >>> https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-DSS2-BK-Black-Spike-Set-4-Pcs.-240-664?quantity=1

Remove and install spikes that are at least 2 inches tall.

I highly recommend the Multi-Element Cones. Worth every penny.

Should have included...after removing the damaged bases you need to fill the holes in order to maintain an air tight cabinet.

2 for removing and adding spikes. Ok, then, sounds like the easiest plan of all. 😂👍

    Thank you!

+++ on above. Awhile back I did Monitor 11s (like Monitor 10s) with the spikes Jesse told me to use (on 11s) & the project went great. It improved the bass as well. My cabinet base were just beat up/chip'd/broken iirc. Your speakers look great. Congrats.
