Speaker question related to my post below

I'm still not sure whether to go with the RT55i or the RT800i's. Now I will probably not get to demo the RT55i's due to them not being in any store I know of here in Fresno. So my question is whether I should save myself $200 (a lot for a college student) and go with the 55i's. My system is:

CS400i center
Energey eXL:15 surrounds
Onkyo 595 receiver
etc...

With my system in mind should I go with the bookshelves or the towers? Decisions decisions. I also have a custom built subwoofer from acoustic-visions.com with a Shiva driver that kicks major ****, especially for my small room.

I believe they are basicly the same speaker but one is a tower and the other is a large bookshielf. I would think that the 800 would have a little more bass using the extra space in the tower.
I would say save the money and get the 55's since you have an awesome sub. If you have a place to set them on. I think they have the same power rating.

By the way good choice on the Onkyo595. How do you like it?:)

I think it is great for my first real HT setup. I couldn't go all out and get a top of the line model. For the money I think this model is awesome. DD, DTS, and DPLII are all I could use or would want right now due to room limitations and speaker limitations. If money were not an issue I would get seperates or maybe a flagship receiver from a company and probably the new LSI series from Polk. I think my system with a great center and subwoofer is just perfect. I just need to replace those darn Eosone fronts and I'll be done. Maybe I'll replace the Energy surrounds with some more Polks but I proabably don't need to. I was also looking at the Pioneer VSX810S and 850S. I was swayed by some people away from it. It lacked DPLII but had a rear channel. In summation it is a superb entry level receiver.

Ok the differences I see between the two are:

    Freq. response - RT800i's is 28Hz to 26kHZ, RT55i's is 35HZ to 26kHZ

    Lower dB limit - RT800i 42HZ, RT55i 47HZ

    Upper dB limit - RT800i 2kHZ, RT55i 25kHZ

    Efficiency - RT800i 90dB, RT55i 91dB

These are the most important factors between the two. There is also some crossover stuff with the RT55i that I don't get at all. With my system (entry level) I think that the 55i's will work just as well as the 800i's and save me some cash. I may go with the 55i's based on the VERY similar specs and the lower price. I know that Ron P likes his very much. Now if someone would just give me some money I can order them tonight :D

just remeber to add the price of good speaker stands into the price of the 55's. could add another $60-80. either way, i think you will be happy with whatever you go with (sounds like the 55i's), both great speaks for the price, and they will go great with you center and your 595...

kanicker posted that he got some 800i's at fry's electronics for $400 for the pair. don't know if these were open box, or if fry's even does open box items. i'm on the east coast, so i don't have any experience with fry's, but if the 800i's are $400, i would go with those, don't have to worry about stands, and they go a bit lower than the 55i's. check it out if you have a fry's near you....
