Replacement tweeter for Monitor 4A

New here. I've done a search and read about a few people with the same dead tweeter issue with the Monitor 4A(4.5?) speakers. I've identified the right ones on ebay, but they're all in the US and I'm in Canada, so the shipping doubles the price making them about $70 a piece. It's the RD0202-1 tweeter that I'm looking for. Does anyone have or know of where to find one of these in Canada? Thanks.

  • Hello,
Welcome to the Polk forum. I'll ask a friend at Polk where you can find a tweeter in Canada, should have a response tomorrow.
  • Well, I went ahead and bought a tweeter from ebay. I was able to find one for a bit less, and it's one manufactured in Japan like the ones I have.
Unfortunately since then, I have discovered that the woofer on the same speaker isn't delivering as much volume as the other speaker, so I don't know yet if it's blown as well or if there's a crossover issue? I know for certain that the tweeter is in fact toast because it reads 1 or absolute resistance on the multimeter. I'll remove the woofer and check its resistance tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

You may have a magnet shifted. Use 2 fingers & evenly & lightly push in on the woofer in/out & feel of it has any resistance. The MW woofers are known for shifting, as the adhesive has aged & isn't holding magnet properly.. To check crossover you can swap woofers around from 1 cabinet to the other for a quick check. While your doing this you can peak inside & inspect crossover

You may want to apply a bead of adhesive on each side of the magnets to help prevent future magnet shifting.. The lightest hit/bump/drop can cause this.. Very well known issue
