ES-10 or ES-15 for atmos speaker?
Hello Everybody!
I'm looking for an advice regarding atmos height speakers.
I already have a 7.1.4 setup comprised of a Denon AVC-48000 and 7 Polk ES series on ear level (2x ES20 as LR, ES30 as center and 4x ES15). For atmos at the moment have 4x Cambridge audio min minx 22 which I'm looking to repurpose on another setup.
My options are either 4x ES10 or 4x ES15 to stay in the Polk ES family sound, my question is if i will gain something sound wise by going with the larger size speaker for atmos, both they will be wall mount up high, the wall mounts will be the same for either speaker and the total price difference here in Greece is about 160€ more for a quad es15 vs a quad es10.
One of the reasons that the min minx are being replaced is the crossover placed by dirac between 177 to 200hz which is borderline with the subs capability (the rest i have it on 80hz).
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Hello Stelios,
Sounds like you're putting together a first rate surround system. I'll pose your question to a friend at Polk and see what they suggest. -
His response:
"The larger ES15 will have a fuller sounding upper bass and lower midrange and improved sensitivity, but the larger enclosure may not blend well into the room.
The data is not full range encoded so the smaller ES10’s may work well, and the Atmos bandwidth is rated from 90 Hertz, (+ / - 3 dB) on up.
A lot depends on the volume of the room."

Thank you for your answer, the larger enclosure blending due to size its always a factor but on the other hand i already have filled the living room with speakers so the top wall ones won't be a deal breaker, and I know the difference the fuller range has on sound (the minx where respectable, i had one in each position before switching to Polk and the difference was way more than expected, i started hearing details and sounds on movies and clips that i heard way to many times before and they weren't there. Moving the crossover from 150hz to 200hz to a 70 to 80hz made a huge difference in my case.)
I didn't know though that the Atmos channel is only 90hz -25khz, so either speaker choice is valid.
I'll probably go with es15 just to be safe (and have a piece of mind that i have the fuller range available, as i know myself that i will always question if i made the right choice).
Thank you again for your answer and your time!!
