RT16 foam disintegrated and falling out the bottom of floor speakers

Hi all,

My first post! I'm pretty new to all of this, so apologies in advance for inaccurately describing compontents. Here is an issue I am having..

The last time we tried to play records, I was alarmed to see a bunch of foam appearing on the floor from the RT16 speakers. I put one on it's side, and learned that the pedestal can be removed, revealing a gaping hole to the interior where foam is falling out. I went ahead and pulled what I could out, but am left wondering:

1. Is there a way to open the housing box and clean it up better? I can only reach up to my forearm in through this bottom hole
2. What to do next (is this open hole normal? seems like spiders will crawl in for example and make it all gross(er). Can/must the foam be replaced?
3. The woofers and tweeter drivers (I believe these are the round things mounted to the front of the box?) seem to be intact from the front. Should I dismount them from the box and check the back of them? There are no cracks or obvious tears to these round compontents, it's just the handfuls of foam that is crumbing and falling out the bottom hole.

Thanks in advance!

Polk used the foam as a filler material inside the cabinet. It gets old and brittle and basically disintegrates. The proper way to get after it will most likely involve taking the drivers (woofers and tweeters) out of the cabinet. It does sounds like you may be pretty inexperienced with all this. I'd suggest once you unscrew the drivers you take pictures of the wires and how they are connected to the drivers. The wires will pull off the speaker tabs, be careful.
