Hello, I have a Polk RT3000P plate amp in need of the transformer. Anyone know where I can find one?
Thanks for the help,

Does the transformer have any info printed on it?

Yeah unfortunately the transformer is not made anymore and I'm not sure if there's a suitable replacement.

I do have a spare brand new one of these plate amps in my basement, however I'm hesitant on selling it due to never knowing if I'll need a new one and because it's gone unused for 20 years, those two large filter caps (which are buldging a little bit) will definitely blow up so you'd need to get the amp tested and refurbished first.

Now... have you considered mating a plate amp from Parts Express to your RT3000p? It's arguably more economical to do, I only repaired my plate amps because they were easy fixes (broken solder joints due to being unleaded, and bad filter caps). If they ever totally died I'd either mate plate amps or just power through my complete rebuild project.

The Dayton Audio SPA300-D or Yung SD300 could work well!

Ok, let's try this. Post a photo of the transformer and the label because I'm not finding anything with the info you posted.

Ok, here are some photos. I'm new to this forum just today, so hope they came through.

Much appreciated your input on this. My vintage 80's DJ system thanks you.

How do you know the transformer is bad?

I brought the amp to a local tech who said the transformer was bad, then to a second tech who confirmed this (I did not tell the second tech about the first diagnosis).

Very good. Since those numbers didn't turn up anything and without the specs makes it hard to source a replacement.

How about taking the good amp/transformer to your tech to see if they can determine the specs.

I forgot to mention, the reason I asked is it is unusual for a transformer to go bad all on its own.

Yes, I agree. I have rarely seen a bad one myself. The fact that two techs found it to be bad tells me it needs to be replaced.

And yes, I have asked my tech to figure out the specs of the known good transformer.

Sometimes AC transformers are required to have an internal fusible link as a safety precaution.

    From the listing

If the power transformer is defective (this is a very, very rare occurrence) the unit cannot be repaired because the transformer is not available, and we will ship the unit back to you and refund your purchase less the cost of shipping and a $25 diagnosis fee. For your information, we have repaired hundreds of this amp model and have yet to find a bad transformer. So, while this is possible, is probably not worth worrying about.

Thank you for all your comments. My tech replaced the transformer with one from Nippon. I just picked it up and will test it tomorrow, I will let you know the outcome.
