My brother's FIL just passed away, and in cleaning out his house they have come across a fancy turntable. He is mid-fi at best, but would like to learn about what he has. It is a Transcriptor Skeleton, complete with the import papers and shipping containers from Ireland. Can anyone suggest a website that is specific for turntable experts?

Sure. Take a look at the Vinyl Engine forum.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Here's another place you could look into:

FWIW (if anything) -- I quite like the Transcriptor tt. The arm design was quite nontraditonal and could work very well.
Transcriptor was the direct predecessor of Michell Audio and that brand's turntables.
A funky little audio store in Baltimore sold them (as did the much, much bigger Gordon Miller) 'way back when. My first exposure to Grado cartridges was via a Transcriptor Skeleton tt. I was quite taken by the sound and bought a Grado F1+ (best one I could afford) straight away.
