Replacement driver for RC85i

Looking for a suggestion for a compatible driver for this speaker, which is torn. Tape didn’t help lol.

What should I be looking for on eBay? Is this V80 compatible? https://www.ebay.com/itm/134894009781

Did a little kid stick fingers into the tweeter dome or could that be from getting too warm ? It looks suspect..

Oh boy, i didn't see that. I guess anything is possible, but I don't think any of my kids have played with the tweeter. It came with the house though, so not sure what may have happened previously, or if the installer messed it up.

The speaker is mounted in an uninsulated basement wall where it's typically in the low 60s, so not sure about heat being an issue.

Would that damaged tweeter dome cause noticeable issues? Right now my primary concern is the crackling and buzzing I appear to be getting from the driver.

Polk will replace your speakers, providing they were purchased from an authorized dealer. Telephone 1-800-377-7655 and follow the prompts to customer service and they will take care of it.

The damages look like the result of being overdriven.

Thanks, but they were purchased/installed by the subcontractor when the house was built in 2008, so no way to validate the warranty. They also told me that the parts are no longer available.

So I'm now just wondering if any old 8" driver with the 4-hole screw pattern is compatible...?

Usually if you explain the circumstances surrounding a warranty claim, Polk will extend a courtesy replacement. The speakers were already part of the house when you bought it and you don't have a sales receipt for individual components.

Thanks, tried that, unless I just got an unhelpful rep:

You can buy a new pair of those speakers here for a good price. Use one to replace the damaged speaker and keep the other for the future.
