Inductor DCR Question

I see several posts where folks go with "upgrade" inductors with lower DCR than the original. I am wondering why you wouldn't try to say with an inductor with similar DCR as the original? Otherwise, it seems to me that the characteristic of the XO could be quite different. What am I missing?

Apparently, resistances are fairly important in voicing. I was even told by one of the former Polk design engineers (ZSP) that I should stay with the same gauge internal wires as the XO was tuned with that gauge and length wire. Changing the resistance of the wire could slightly de-tune the XO. Notice that he provided a harness diagrams with length and gauge for the RTA-15TL.

Best bet is to keep the DCR the same as intended for solid results.

The only inductor I'm aware of using a lower dcr is the SDA inductor. Other than that most, read (I) have stayed as close as possible with both wire gauge and dcr.

We are doing that except with the 16mh Inductor, we are going to a lower DCR, and I think that is what he is questioning seeing in the post's..

Here, this should answer your question, Darqueknight went through this many years ago, and covered a lot, unfortunately many of his pictures are gone from 2010.

    A good read nonetheless..

The use of a high DCR SDA inductor was a design compromise to ensure compatibility with the amplifiers commonly available 20 years ago. Replacement of this inductor with one with a low DCR is a Polk recommended modification, provided your amplifier(s) can deal with the lowered impedance.

    Ok, that makes sense then.
