Those are early DCM timewindows... they might not be the last word in construction quality (I believe that the TL cabinet is made partly if not mostly of cardboard) but give a listen and you might not be so negatively disposed to 'em.

Drivers (at least the tweeters) were sourced from Philips and are excellent. DCM was one of the first speaker companies to take the concept of 'imaging' seriously and the timewindows are emblematic of their initial approach.

I have a pair that look just like yours :-) the foam 'sock' rotted away completely on one and the other's demised was hastened by an enounter with our cat, Zappa. They sound great (I use 'em with a push-pull EL84 stereo tube amp from an old Magnavox console) and look awful. Not bad for $10, though.

Gratuitous aside: rumor has it that DCM took its name from their home town of Ann Arbor, MI "Drug Capitol of the Midwest". I cannot confirm this...

the foam socks were also ripped apart by our cat smudgie.

i have given them plenty of listens and i've tried hard to find the encompassing effect that some people describe but all i find is muffled crap. i honestly can't stand these speakers, and the imaging that you describe is simply not there. maybe its the way that they are setup, but i doubt it because i have put them in my room with better placement and they still dont sound good ( or look good). i describe them as sounding like listening to a movie through stock car speakers at the drive in movies. you all know that kind of echoy drive in movie effect, thats what they sound like.

for $10 they are a great deal, but for what my dad paid for them, 700 or so, they not up to par.

something's wrong... They should sound good (and the reference points around my house include Polk Monitor 7A's, IMF Super Compacts, AR-3's, KEF C20's, Klipsch Cornwalls, Altec 604B's, etc.). Maybe trouble in the crossovers (caps) or drivers out. Are you sure they're hooked up in phase? Swap + and - on one of them and see if it 'helps'... maybe they were miswired by DCM (drug capitol of the midwest, after all...)
