I was gonna say it sounds like a damaged cable or maybe a ground loop. I'm sorry that happened when you were just trying to enjoy some music after a stressful day.

FWIW, a "snap" sounds to me like a capacitor poppin' off; or possibly a small-signal tube self-immolating.
I am speaking strictly from experience.
The circled bypass cap experienced rapid unscheduled disassembly whilst listening, if memory serves, to Joan Osborne at somewhat nontrivial sound pressure levels.
Heat from that resistor under it was likely the proximate cause. I replaced both bypass caps with 105 degree rated electrolytics (and moved them away from the cathode resistors) -- with a long-term intention* to go to non-electrolytic bypass capacitors.

* the road to h-e-double l, of course, being paved with good intentions.
I've even got the bypass caps; big mo-f-os they are, though.

I had been looking forward to listening to some quality gear and music for 2 years now. I was pretty **** last night. The cable I was using from the source to the Anthem is a AQ Columbia with DBS. Im not sure what would cost more to replace or fix, the cable or the pre amp! 😂 😭 -
Almost sounds like a DC surgeMagico, JL, Emm, ARC Ref 10 line, ARC Ref 10 phono, VPI, Lyra, Boulder, AQ Wel, SRA Scuttle Rack, Bluesound

I feel so defeated right now. <snip> Then I hit the power button (to turn it off) on the Anthem and got a horrifically loud high pitch snap from the right speaker.
Ouch. So sad to hear of this happening. Especially after a not-so-good day at work.
Would you happen to know anyone nearby you that has a tube tester?
