Monitor 70 vs ES60

Hi all! I have a pair of Monitor 70s (first series) that I've had for 20 years, paired with a Yamaha as801 and an SVS sb2000 sub (I'm mainly interested in music, less so movies). I'm thinking about an upgrade of the Monitor 70s and was wondering about the ES60s. Anyone have experience comparing the sound of these two? I really like the smooth, warm sound of the Monitor 70s and want to get something that retains that quality (for example, I tried SVS Prime Pinnacles and had to return them because they were just so harsh that my ears hurt).

Nicely done on the longevity of your M70's. Although I've taken a different path after my M70's, I've heard that all three; Signature, Reserve and Legend towers would be a decent upgrade from your M70's for 2ch. I was actually leaning toward the L600's for that very reason but ended up going outside the Polk line.

There are plenty of prior M70 owners here, if you have the patience, you'll get some more input.

  • OP here again. Thanks for the feedback. The m70s are still going strong (replaced a blown tweeter 10 years ago). I’m also considering a more major upgrade to the R700. Trying to figure out if (a) it’s worth spending the extra money, (b) if my Yamaha as801 can drive them well, and (c) if they’ll fit well in my living room (they are just a eee bit beefier than the m70s). In another post i got one positive answer to (b), so it’s most (a) and (c).

The R700 would be a big upgrade and your Yammie should be fine.
